One summer can change everything…

What happens when a friend breaks the one rule that should never be broken?

Best friends Bella and Poppy are living the dream – Notting Hill glamour, Shoreditch lofts, exclusive parties and drop-dead gorgeous men. But sometimes living life to the max catches up with you, and even the strongest friendships can be pushed to the limit.

Poppy, Bella and their friends spend the summer having as much fun as they possibly can – from the hedonistic escapades of Ibiza to doing Glastonbury in style. But amongst the laughter come tears, betrayal and backstabbing and one devastating decision threatens to bring it all crashing down. And, once the sunglasses have come off, Bella is forced to question if her lifelong friendship has been broken beyond repair.

The perfect escapist read, Revelry will have you laughing, crying and gasping with shock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revelry - a great read whatever the weather!! 22 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback
Revelry by Lucy Lord has all the elements one would expect from a Chick Lit, however, the style of writing quickly immerses you into Bella's world and a fascinating group of working professionals who have an insatiable appetite to party in London, Glastonbury, Ibiza, hell even at Mum's country home...No matter what the cost. Inevitably there is a cost and hangovers and heartbreak are unavoidable.
Lucy Lord's writing style is fast paced, quick witted and humorous. At the same time, Revelry is unapologetically spot on with regards to our generation's attitudes towards sex and drugs. This book is a great insight into what party goers get up to in Ibiza and if that's your scene you're going to love this book. Not being much of a clubber myself I was still fascinated. It is the amount of fun that the characters have, coupled with the dynamics of their relationships that had me gripped from early on in the book.
I could not put the book down until I had read to the end (at 4am), and found out how the love affairs, heartbreaks and some very questionable behaviour were all sorted out. My head is still full of Bella and her world and I can't wait for the next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great summer read :) 14 Jun 2012
By Ms. C. A. Anderson VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
One summer where a hell of lot happens.

Bella, our lead shows us the hedonistic lifestyle of VIP parties, trips abroad and life in the land of people with money.

The thing is that Bella, while being friends with some that have it, isn't. She temps for a living while still trying to find her way as a artist. But having not much money doesn't stop her heading to Ibiza with her friends for some of the summer where they rattle through the clubs bars, drink, drugs and men/women. A holiday which lets us further in to the lives of Bella and her friends and which sets the tone for an adventurous summer. A summer which leads onto the music festival; Glastenbury and where we see Bella get together with longtime crush and model friend; Ben and as the reader, we are happy for her. In her thirties, she feels she needs a man, while we as the reader begin to see that maybe it wasn't such a good idea with Ben...

We learn of best friend Poppy's relationship, one of love but also strain because, although Bella doesn't say it, she is jealous of Poppy and doesn't think a lot of herself. But as one of the only few of her friends who seem to tell the truth and is genuinely kind, we see that Bella doesn't see herself the way she should and that because of this people take advantage of her and her good nature. We feel for Bella as it is clear that she isn't as confident in herself as she should be and when best friend Poppy betrays her in the worst possible way, both of them hit new lows...

Their friendship and that of others are tested to the limit, but with this betrayal comes a new outlook on life for Bella. She takes control and organises her life and while what happened was not what anyone would want it has pushed her to sort her career in the art industry with new genuine friend Alison and pursue the right kind of relationship with a man, who loves her for her and not just to take advantage. We are left with a sense of happiness as Bella has come a long way from what seems like ages since the start of the book and with it a new life, new career and new friends.

A book over one summer which packs everything from tears, tantrums and betrayals to love, laughter and happiness - a great summer read :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Read 23 Nov 2012
By Jessica
Format:Paperback
I thought this book was brilliant, and I was hooked from the start! Lucy Lord is excellent at descriptive writing, and I could picture each scene perfectly. The book kept me wondering what was going to happen next, and, whilst I did find myself correctly predicting part of the ending, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

The only reason I have not given this book 5 stars is that, like some other reviews, I did not particularly like the fact that drugs feature heavily in the storyline. I didn't mind the swearing and sex scenes (which were very saucy!) though. If you are looking for a glamourous, sexy read then definitely give this book a go, however, if you do not like reading about drugs, alcohol, the 'C' word and sex, then it may not be for you.
