I put the first half on - what a load of rubbish - I hated it. 'This one is going back', I thought. I gave it another go but still I couldn't get along with it.
As it is a double album I had to give the second half a listen. FANTASTIC. It is Ani at her best. The lyrics are moody, sad, and poignant. The music is hypnotic. What a difference. It is always on my stereo. Not car music, not very pacey. Perfect for having a bath or working to.
I have to confess that every now and again I give the first half another listen but I still don't like it. Too experimental, too quirky.
I would recommend it as a great album with a free beermat included!

Revelling/Reckoning is a great buy for any fan, new or old. It brings all her styles together on two superb CDs, theres the folk Ani, the political Ani, the funk Ani etc. Songs such as"Grey","School Night","Garden of Simple" overwhelm you with a feeling of awe, the lyrics are shear poetry. The Revelling CD is more funky than her old folk, melo-dramatic style- its along the same lines as the outstanding "To The Teeth" album. The Reckoning CD is far more chilled out, but the songs are quite deep almost soul searching material- but not even slightly heavy going! This album isn't going to make people rise up into a revolution- but thats never her intention, it makes you think, feel, understand and maybe even want to make a difference. Ani may not want to be a heroine, but she does a bad job at trying not to be one.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Gasping for air... 13 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Most of the other Ani albums I've listened to have left me content, but not completely full. This album, however, left me lying on my bed somewhat overwhelmed. I've given it four out of five, only because there are two tunes I'm not entirely at ease with, but hey, that's just a personal thing. If you're an Ani virgin, buy this album first as it'll give you a good indication of what she's about. I spent the first month of album ownership listening to Revelling pretty much obsessively and have only just got round to listening to Reckoning today. Wow! What a fabulous discovery. This is by far my best musical aquisition of the year. An all round mind blowing experience.
