Product Description

Product Description

The first launch of the "Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905" - a converted Boeing 747-123 passenger aircraft - with the Space Shuttle "Enterprise" attached to its back took place in 1977. During five test flights the space shuttle was disconnected from the SCA 905 in order to test the flight and landing characteristics of the orbiter. The "Enterprise" landed of its own accord after its approach glide. By the end of the Space Shuttle program the American National Aviation and Space Agency (NASA) had conducted more than 220 "piggy backmissions" with the SCA 905. During its last missions, the "Discovery", the "Enterprise" and the "Endeavour" were transferred to various museums. On 17 March 2012 SCA 905 landed at Dulles International Airport with the Space Shuttle "Discovery". The Space Shuttle is now on permanent display in the "National Air and Space Museum" in Washington.

I had been looking for this kit for a while, having completed the Shuttle / SRB combo a few years ago.
Overall, the kit is good and up to Revell standards, save for some parts requiring a lot of trimming to remove excessive plastic from the moulding process.
If you choose this kit and are going to build it without using the stand, make sure you overdo it on the nose ballast. I put in the suggested 25g and now I have a tail-sitter, forcing me to use the stand.
Despite that, an impressive kit once finished and worth the hassle. Just need to find somewhere to put it now.

Its a nice model to display. Best for experienced modelers. Take your time building it, and you will be rewarded with an unusual model to display which gets peoples attention. It does require quite a bit of weight to keep the nose down should you decide to display it on the wheels. I suggest putting some of the weight into the shuttle nose cone as well as the 747 nose. By doing this, the weights wont show through the windows of the 747. The majority of parts fit well, but so does the flash!. There,s quiet a bit of it. Enough to "niggle". I found that the left (port) wing went up at to much of an angle compared to the right wing when attaching to the fuselage. ( a lot of messing about there). The decals were good, and easy to put on. Take care when putting the NASA ones onto the fin, as the red ribbons at the bottom can curl up or part The 747 window decals, i wouldnt use. The blue is much to dark. It should be lighter. I carefully masked the fuselage and airbrushed it to the correct colour of blue I advise that the whole model is airbrushed. Using a paint brush often spoils a model no matter how much care is taken. It was a long build, and the model tried and" bit me " many times. ( right to the end ). I was glad to finish it. The end result being worth all the effort / stress. Would i build one again.? You would have to pay me.! Have fun.
