This helicopter is a really good size. Although the instructions say that it's meant for indoor use, wow - you'd need a BIG room to be able to sensibly fly it around! So, our helicopter got taken outdoors I'm afraid where, once the controls were tuned, it turned out to be very stable and a lot of fun for both large and small people to fly. As other reviewers have stated, it rotates and goes up and down very well but flying forwards is very slow. This is an issue if there is any breeze present as it'll undoubtedly end up somewhere that you don't want. At present ours is stuck very high up in a tree having been blown there and then getting it's rotors tangled and I can see that this weekend I'll be risking life and limb to rescue it as the kids are really upset. On the positive side, the helicopter does to be quite robust as it's survived numerous crashes so far and - a nice touch this - the set does come with some spare parts although we've not yet needed to use them. I'm not sure how much of a useful feature the glow in the dark aspect of this helicopter is. We've not yet felt compelled to go out in the dark to fly it, so I can't really comment on how well that feature works.

So, in summary I would recommend this helicopter as a really fun, and robust, way to spend time. However, do only use it when there is no wind or else you, too, may find yourself scaling trees in your spare time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware - you need a lot of space 10 Jun 2014

The instructions state that you need to use this helicopter indoors in a room the size of Hogwart's Dining room but this is not possible. The instructions also state that you need a license for using this outdoors. Hmmmmm!

This copter charges easily. I flew it for a good half an hour and it was still going strong. The remote needs AA batteries - rechargable will do fine. The Controls take a bit of getting used to. Up and down on one joystick and stearing on the other., There is a fine tuning setting also which helps to keep it level.

I found it very difficult to fly this helicopter forwards. Up and down and left and right were fine but straight ahead did not really happen. Having said that, if it shot straight ahead, I assume it would fall out of range and get lost/smashed or caught in a tree.

The helicopter is quite hardy, managing to survive a fall from quite a height. It comes with spare rotas which I have not yet had to use. It is glow in the dark but I would not be mad keen to use this in the dark so this did not appeal to me.

It feels like a moderate build quality - more like transformers than lego if this makes any sense.

All in, it's good fun, seems of moderate quality and works quite well.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is quite large and impressive looking; just opening the box brought a smile to my face. It was really easy enough to set up too. I have had a small RC helicopter before, which only worked if I started off holding it above my head, so I was prepared for disappointment. Instead I was pleasantly surprised.

The controls are sensitive and at first it is far too easy to be heavy handed with them, but after a bit of practice it becomes much easier. It is too big to use indoors but is also very susceptible to the slightest breeze outside, so you really need to use it on a calm day.

This is a very good machine (and very robust as it has not broken despite the number of times it has crashed). I hope that with practice I will be able to do it justice.

Firstly, I found it a little difficult to see in detail the images in the instruction manual, but I downloaded a pdf version on the .de website.

I'm pretty much a novice with radio controlled (RC) helicopters, so I read the instructions several times before making any attempt to fly!

This is described as an indoor helicopter, but the recommended room size is 10 metres by 6 metres x 3 high (minimum!); if you've a space that big at home perhaps your butler can help you fly it, otherwise you'll need a school hall. The easiest (and décor-friendly option) is to find an outside space on a wind-free day.

The helicopter requires a 90 minute charge for about 5 minutes' of flight time. It has a built in lithium polymer battery, so it's not possible to have a spare (a feature of more expensive models). When the `copter is fully charged a red light illuminates on the charger (you'll have to do a headstand to see it because it's located right under the charge unit instead of on the top).

Next one has to `bind' the control unit to the helicopter. Make sure the left control (thrust!) is down and switch the controller on; next switch the `copter on and then wiggle the thrust control up and down. When successfully bound (binded?) there's a beep and you're ready to go.

The controls are easy to operate; left for up and down, right for rotation and direction of travel. My first attempts were clumsy. Practise results in a more sensitive approach and soon I found that gentle taps on the controller brings rewards and it's really quite easy to make the helicopter follow one's intentions (provided it's not windy).
