You can't help but think that Gene are angry on this album, from lines describing stanley knife mutilation to titles like "You'll Never Walk Again" - there's a forceful feel. Having said that, production is smooth and lyrics are a treat. Favourites include "The Looker" (trips to "Ladies of the night") and the wonderful Fill Her Up (NOT about Ladies of the night!). The final track grabs your heart and leaves you hoping it never ends.

Forget the Smiths-pretenders tag, Gene are one of the best guitar bands around. This album really should take up some space near your stereo, even if you have just a nagging respect for this band. There's not one bad track - in fact, I would say it's the best studio album they've realeased. Just buy it and enjoy.

Consistently good throughout 18 Nov 1999

All 13 songs are quite good, which is in itself a departure from the previous two albums. Although Olympian & Drawn To The Deep End had their low points mixed with true gems, this new offering has more consistent tracks, no real low points but nevertheless lacks anything to match the strength of those gems on earlier albums. Still a good buy.
