Oh dear. I have to stand out a bit from the crowd here and wait to garner lots of "unhelpful" clicks from those who don't like the fact that I really found this book quite bad. Rare for me as I read absolutely anything and don't expect great literature etc all the time in books of this genre. Unlike A Customer I much preferred "Nemesis". "Revelation" reads to me like a first attempt at a novel, not a follow on. It's initial publication date is actually 2000, not 2008, so it has obviously been dug out again. Sadly.

I have rarely read a book in which so little attempt is made to draw a character. Lev Petrosian, the atomic "spy", is perhaps the best done but Findhorn, Romella, Stef and so on are just names on a page and it's very difficult to care what happens to them when they are so totally one dimensional. I have no problem suspending disbelief, or going along with some fairly ludicrous plots if the book is fun, but this was a constant struggle. Findhorn goes to Romella for translations and the next minute they're racing around the world, she's getting hold of all sorts of top secret FBI information (what, they just hand it out?) and the plot leaps disjointedly from one person who may want the energy documents to the next. There's a bizarre group of people who may (or may not) believe they're aliens who need the secrets in order to meet their mates; there's a Japanese bloke, Matsumo, who also wants them; Archie comes and goes with relatively little explanation. Ad nauseam. No fluidity at all and with that incredibly irritating habit some authors have of trying to write accents down on the page as they may sound: "joost veezeeting" - that's a Brummie, apparently.

I was a bit disappointed with the first book by Bill Napier (Nemesis), so was a bit hesitant to buy this. But, as everyone may have noticed, there is bit of a lull in decent books right now, so I got this. Well, Napier has certainly improved above and beyond on Nemesis! Revelation was well written, believable, had great characters and extremely fast paced, making it quite hard to put down! If you are in the mood for some well-written action with elements of mystery, science and suspense thrown in for good measure, you can't go wrong with this book!

The first 50 pages of this book were in my opinion an absolute mess. They were confusing , had no focus and held no real interest. However just as I was about to abandon this book (something I hate to do) it picked up. In the end it was a pretty satisfying read, well paced and exciting.
Overall worth a read but make sure you stick with it to the end.
