If the B-52s had taken a lot of speed, a little acid, and gorged themselves on Jetsons reruns (particularly the episode featuring Jet Screamer singing "Eep Op Ork Ah Ah"), they probably would have sounded something like this. Only they still would have lacked a drummer as tremendous as Rocky Rhythm--a guitarist as sharp as Kid Krupa--and Eugene Reynolds' ability to carry a tune (with all due respect to Fred Schneider). And the Revillos are debatably better songwriters as well.
I consider the Revillos to be perhaps the tragically best-kept secret of rock'n'roll history. My kids love them, and I have personally declared them to be "The Most Fun Band EVER!!!". This album and their intended glamrock-influenced followup, "ATTACK!" (not to be confused with the hijacked/butchered version "Attack of the Giant Revillos", which came out without the band's supervision and more or less destroyed their career) are as remarkable a pair of albums as anyone has ever released. The production is marvelous, mingling space effects with surf guitar in an orgy of early 60s ecstacy. It's a one of a kind experience, without a hint of sober reflection, just bang up edgy pop-rock thrills.
Anybody with even a passing interest in surf rock, punkabilly, or anything like the early B-52s really ought to look into this criminally overlooked band. GOD BLESS THE REVILLOS!!!
