5.0 out of 5 stars Folk as it was 5 Nov 2011

Great performance from a sadly missed traditional folk group. Brings back memories of seeing them live in the 1960's. Pity it's in NTSC as not everyones dvd player will play this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Clancys and Tommy Makem 28 Nov 2010
This is classic Clancys and Tommy Makem, they are absolutely brilliant on stage live. Well worth having in your collection, especially for an evening when you are bored or feeling down. It will lift your spirits and provide you with an enjoyable evenings entertainment.
If your Irish and away from home, it will transport you back to the Emerald Isle for a magical time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. 18 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of the Clancy Brothers since the 1960's.This concert is evidence of why they were so popular all over the world. From start to finish all four of them are vibrant, charismatic, joyous, humorous, and in great voice. They look and sound at their very best. You only need to look at the response of the audience to see that that is the case. Tommy Makem's voice can pierce your soul. They sing an excellent range of songs from their vast repertoire and there is not a weak song in the concert. My only complaint is that it is not long enough. The listener is left longing for more.
Gerry Mc Menemy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oustanding irish energy! 9 Jan 2005
By Dennis Kenney - Published on
The Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem always had the greatest energy. Tommy Makem plays so many instruments as they sing "Brennan on the Moor", "Irish rover", "Shoals of Herring", "Isn't it grand boys", "I'll tell Me Ma", Rocky Road to Dublin", "Carrickfergus", "The Ballad of William Bloat", "Galway Races", "Portlairge", "Jug of Punch", "Wild Rover", "Will ye go lassie go", and "Holy Ground".

5.0 out of 5 stars A great snapshot of a legendary group 22 July 2007
By music lover - Published on
This was recorded during the groups 1984 reunion concert tour. The original group disbanded in 1969, as Tommy Makem went on a solo career. The remaining three joined up with brother Bobby Clancy and later Louis Killen to make more successful albums together. Liam Clancy left in the mid 1970's to embark on a solo career, and then joined up with Tommy Makem to form the tremendous duo, Makem and Clancy. This DVD is great because it gives fans a chance to see some moving images of the group, since there is so little material available. The quality of the audio/video is not perfect, as Tom Clancy can barely be heard (some have said that he had Laryngitis at this concert). It also appears to have been recorded over a period of a few nights, as there are slight differences in some of the songs. However, the song selection is great and these minor problems don't deter from the great performance. This would be the last time that the Clancy's and Tommy Makem would reunite, as Tom died in 1990 and Paddy in 1998. Oh, if only a video of the New York reunion concert was available....

4.0 out of 5 stars A Gem 23 April 2007

For those who like The Clancy Brothers, this DVD is a must. The Reunion concert took place in the mid 80s in Ireland and the recording was very good but not excellent. Regardless, to see the group in their mature years is a treat. I strongly recommend that the Reunion CD be purchased as well. It was recorded in the US and the song selection is somewhat different. The song selection on the CD is superior in my opinion [although this is a question of taste] and I rate the CD 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Irish Group Ever 14 Feb 2012

I am rating this DVD 5 stars because it is the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. It is also the only DVD I could find of them performing live in concert. I was fortunate to see the group back in 1969 live in NYC. Oh how I loved them and had most of their LP albums. Recently I decided to play some of their Cd's that I have and realized how much I had missed not playing their music in a long time. I then thought to see where they might be performing. I did not realize that they had all died. Time has a way of just slipping by. I am now 69 and just didn't realize how old they would be today. To have seen them live in their youth was a wonderful experience. This group transcends all others. Liam is fantastic when he sings a slow ballad. Together this group were pure entertainers. I was a little disappointed in this DVD. The quality of it was not very good - in fact it was a little blurry. The group seemed to have lost some of their youthful energy. I had hoped that the audio quality would be a bit better. I still give it 5 stars and I am so happy to have this DVD of them performing live. If you are a fan of theirs this is a must have DVD. I will miss these guys but now in addition to there CD's I can now watch this DVD. I also recently purchased another DVD called The Story of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem that every fan of theirs should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clancy and Makem Reunion 30 Oct 2008
By N. Myers - Published on
If you are a Clancy/Makem fan - and you weren't fortunate enough to experience them live, then this will more than do the trick. It is their first concert since 1969 (16 years passed). Music is great, the boys are great and full of the spirit. The sheer joy of performing together after such a lengthy hiatus is evident throughout the show. Liam Clancy is passionate and excited. Paddy is stoic and intense and Tom is his usual jovial "glad to be here" self. Tommy Makem exudes the true essence of the Freeborn Minstrel Gypsy...sadly only Liam is alive as Makem passed away this year (08/08). Great DVD well worth the price.
