Product Description

Twin sisters are born in Medieval England. One of the infants is dying and is taken to the Witch of Devonshire, who uses supernatural powers to transport the ailing babe to the future. It is the year 1986 when Cathy Hayes, a woman who has lost her child and husband in a car accident, finds the baby at her doorstep, gets her the medical attention she needs, and raises the baby as her own. Morgan grows up in the twentieth century with a mysterious attraction to a hollow suit of armor that stands in the window of her mother's antique store.

Morgan is twenty-four years old when she becomes entangled within the armor's metal plates and is whisked back in time where she is mistaken for Amanda Forrester, a twin sister she knows nothing about. In Amanda's place, Morgan is forced to marry King Henry's favored knight, Derek Vanguard, Lord of Braddock Hall. Abandoned by his mother and having failed as a child to gain his father's love, Derek's heart is as cold as the stone walls of his castle.

In the end, Morgan discovers the true power of love and for the first time in her life she knows where she belongs.

Romantic escapism 13 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Disclosure - I won a free copy of this book from the author.

To be honest, I usually avoid romance like the plague. In this case, I won a free copy of the book and decided to give it a shot.

If you are after historical accuracy, this is not the book for you - I'm enough of a geek to know that someone transported back in time to medieval England would not understand the language, and vice versa - but I'd recommend you ignore that and settle back for a light-hearted read.

The plot involves time-travel and a good dollop of romance, without any graphic sex scenes. Although I admit to occasionally wanting to belt the male lead on the head with something, and wondering why any female would put up with him, this actually shows some pretty good character development.

There were also a couple of laugh-out loud moments of humour, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Although I will probably never be a huge romance fan, I'd give this author another try for sheer escapism.

Final Verdict - A fun, frothy romance.

Enough with the stupid heroines!! 23 July 2011

One of my major pet peeves in romance writing is when a writer tries to pass off idiocy as somehow charming and adorable. Not only was Morgan not charming and adorable she was a moron. There were any number of ways she could have backed up her time travel story just by showing her husband the zipper on her jeans, the fabric in her clothes, THE TAGS!! None of that ever occurred to her. She designed a sleeveless gown for herself that any middle school kid will tell you would not have been acceptable at that time because, despite the fact that she was raised by an antiques dealer and was supposedly a history buff with an affinity for that time period, she not only never picked up on that fact, she also didn't have eyes to see that no one else wore such outfits. She caused problems every minute by being a petulant, unintelligent brat and that was supposed to be a suitable substitute for actually being a strong, independent woman. The bikini scene was contrived, the joust scene even more so (she couldn't figure out why running down to the jousting field and then giving someone else her favor was a bad idea) and everything about her just annoyed me no end. And what was all this concern about Robert, a guy she met twice for about five minutes? The whole story was so forced and I'm so over the "girl with IQ of a turnip gets awesome guy" plot line.

There are so many great conflicts that can arise naturally if the author put a little more effort into research. It would be easy for a history buff from the future to slip up and mention something that hadn't happened yet but was about to, causing everyone to suspect her when her words showed true. It isn't necessary to fall back on the same tired old schemes all the time.

Very highly recommended ! 2 April 2011

I actually am not a Fiction reader, however, the title "Return of the Rose" caught my eye. I downloaded on to my Kindle for a very long, and difficult six hour flight. The story-line gripped me right away, and I could not put it down. "Return of the Rose" had me transported to all the beautifully written characters, the far-away lands, and love oozed from the pages. For this "Self-Help, Non-Fiction avid reader" I throughly enjoyed the read, and when the pilot announced we were on finally approach I could hardly believe my ears. Look forward to more books by Theresa Ragan. She is an author that will go far in the Romance Novel World. You knocked it out of the park, Miss Theresa! Best $2.99 I spend!

Return of the Rose- Be still my heart! 15 Mar 2011

I have always devoured time travel romances. I love the thought of going back in a distant past to live in times gone by! This book did not disappoint in any way!

Here's the story:

Morgan who lives in the present, has never felt quite like she fit in with everyone else around her. Since she was a child, she was drawn to the suit of arms that stands in her mother's antique shop, and she only feels truly content when touching it. So much so, that she does some research and finds that it belonged to a knight named the Earl of Kingsington, a man who lived in the 1400's. One night as she is hugging the armor her clothes become stuck to some of the links and she tumbles into the past.

She awakes in a forest and begins to explore the area. Morgan soon has to be rescued from some unsavory men by knights on horses, to her surprise! They believe that she has fallen and hit her head, which caused her to loose her memory. The men take her to the castle where everyone insists that her name is Lady Amanda Silverton and she is to meet and marry her betrothed Lord Vanguard, with in mere weeks.

Lord Derek Vanguard is a man who had a cruel father that mistreated him very badly. He believes that his mother abandoned him to run off with her lover and left him alone to bear atrocities of his father. Therefore he has a very distorted view of women- he refuses to trust them, thinks that they are all liars, and have some kind of devious plan.

Morgan is a woman who stands up for herself and will settle for nothing less than all of the love and trust of her knight!

This is a tale not to be missed-with adventures, knights, kings, castles, mistaken identity, and of course time travel.

Hope you'll give this book a try and find it as breathtaking as I did! :)
