Return to the Last Chance Saloon, second album from erstwhile indie stalwarts the Bluetones, is a simple must-buy for any fan if you haven't already got it. even if you aren't, buy it, i guarantee you wont be sorry!
Released in 1997, the album is a move in a different musical direction from debut offering "Expecting to Fly", dispensing with the trademark jangle of Adam Devlin's Rickenbacker into a more
rock-like sound.
There is an apparent wild-west/mexican feel to the album, said to have come about during liberal consumption of tequila during its recording, reflected in top notch single "solomon bites the worm", a clever take on the poem "solomon grundy". I find difficulty in finding any bad tracks on the album, as they all stand out in their own way, although ...If, Sleazy Bed Track and Down At The Reservoir are personal highlights.
As previously said, fans expecting a continuing theme from Expecting to Fly maybe disappointed... but i doubt it. CLASS!

this is IMOH the best bluetones release, the subject matter is dirty and dark, the guitar playing is the most rocking of the bluetones discography and the album is a joy to listen to. This a band you have have to see live for the sheer joy of it. Mark is a superb host and this album is the best in their back catalogue, I wish they would play it in it's entirety.

There are already a number of positive reviews for this forgotten gem of the '90s, but one more won't hurt, will it?
It seems most of the people who actually know the 'Tones agree 'Expecting To Fly' is the best album they've made, but I disagree.
RTTLCS is not just the best 'Tones album, it's also my favourite album of all time. It flows brilliantly, peaking at the unforgettable 'Solomon Bites The Worm', again at the masterpiece which is 'If...' and then again at the jangling 'Down At The Reservoir'. Those three are the standouts on the album, but there are no duds in sight.
For those people expecting something similar to 'Expecting To Fly', you might be disappointed at first, but it'll grow on you. After all, the 'Tones don't know how to write bad songs. Unfortunately for Mark Morriss and co, the 'Tones got lost behind all the other Brit Pop bands, but for those of us in the know, Oasis are nothing compared to the mighty Bluetones. Buy this album now!

The word 'brilliant' sums up the album. A must buy!!!
