The only reason I watched this is becuse I am such a massive SK fan. The first was brilliant, not far off the book but this was utter waffle. I know that it was not written by SK as the first was but why do people feel they have to ruin a perfectly good film but producing a second film which has not relevance what to ever to the first. Cow eating vampires... please. It should never have been allowed to have Salem's Lot in the title.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear, oh, dear!!!, 17 Dec 2011
This review is from: Return to Salem's Lot [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If I was Stephen King, I'd sue. It's hard to find anything that would amount to a plot to this drivel, although "Father attempts to save from from falling under the influence of cow's blood drinking vampires" pretty much sets the tone. This has about as much to do with the original Salem's Lot as cross-stitching has to do with scuba diving. For me, there's nothing more infuriating than the using of the title of a good movie to try to con people into buying utter garbage. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to learn that the film was originally made with a non-descript title then, having realized that they'd wasted money making a film that no-one in their right mind would be interested in watching, set about the task of marketing it and somehow managed to get rights to use Salem's Lot in the title to lure the unsuspecting into putting their hands in their pockets.

I've seen both Salem's Lot (the original Tobe Hooper directed one) and Q: The Winged Serpent by Larry Cohen so I was interested to see Cohen's take on this, especially as he has the usually excellent Michael Moriarty on board. Big mistake. This has nothing to do with Salem's Lot. It's not a sequel as I'd hoped, but a complete reimagining, and an appalling one at that. Now Cohen is a bit of an oddball but Q was a good B movie and I expected the same here but he has completely lost the plot. I won't bore anyone with plot details, not that any of them make sense. A true disaster. Avoid.
