As a UK fan I was annoyed that this animated apes series (13 episodes totalling 316 minutes) from 1975 WASNT available to buy seperately. You can get it as part of the ultimate planet of the apes set which comes housed in a lovely monkey shaped head mask BUT not on its own. I opted then to buy this region 1 American DVD and wasnt dissapointed, superb quality and the episodes on the disk are shown in the correct storyline order (with optional previews of the next episode). The back of the box lists the episodes and their original 1975 NBC airdates but this isnt the order they are in on the disks (thankfully) as NBC showed them slightly out of order for some bizarre reason.

When the ape head set was released in the USA this series was also included in it but only a few of the episodes were remastered and the rest looked rather poor, hence the fact USA ape fans have also bought this release which has now had ALL the episodes remastered and look great. I dont know if the situation is the same with the UK head set, does it include a fully remastered version of this series or a partial one like the American set, havent a clue. Anyway, this is an excellent addition to your apes collection, I recommend it to UK fans who already have some apes items and dont want to upgrade to the mask set.

Unusual 15 Jan 2010

Had to get this as a completest of the Planet of the Apes series but I have to say 'unusual' in the least. Some truly stunning artwork mixed in with some of the worst artwork I have seen, just such an odd mix. Definitely required a lot of effort to stick with it. The live action (TV series) wins any day for me

This was very different to the rest of the franchise, so don't expect something like the films but you are in for a treat of 70's animation. it is a rewarding series if you watch a couple of episodes but it's probably best left for big apes fans
