Totally agree with reviewer, Ratzo Rizo, OUTSTANDING.
well, there's no mistaking a brilliant guitar player and Dweezil is, certainly to me, as good as Frank, who was just more than brilliant.
This is a magic cd.
I was quite disappointed on the first Z p Z, single release, not enough guitar work for me but, this album now, has certainly made up the difference, and, I think a true reflection of the live gigs, i.e., more instrumentals and solos.
Anyone who likes guitar solos, but guitar solos with feel and compassion, this is a MUST. Chatting to guys out side of Shepherds Bush Empire, after the gig, 2007, we all agreed that Dweezil was on another level when it comes to playing that Gibson SG,ace. The rendition of Inca Roads, well, that complexity knocked me out. As a budding guitar myself, and knowing first hand on the pain of trying to manuvere your fingers into chords positions and shapes, how does Dweezil play these complicated riffs, like his father, the wonderful Frank, he is, just brilliant. There is no doudt, there is a world out there where great guitar players are still on a level which, in modern rock music, there is no comparrison. Outstanding.

Dweezil is doing a fantastic job keeping his father's incredible music alive and introducing it to a new audience. The band he has assembled get better and better with each tour (I have seen them dozens of times now) and their understanding of Frank's music is spot on. They are a joy to watch and listen to and this cd is an accurate representation of that fantastic music. It is impossible to single out tracks over as they are all so striong. However, Andy, Magic Fingers, Bamboozled by Love and King Kong are all incredible. The solos dotted all over the CD are so strong and inventive and well just marvellous! As for Billy the Mountain - joyous! BUY THIS CD, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

For those who are familiar with the music of Frank Zappa, and who like it will in all probability enjoy this continuing delve into his vast back catalogue by son Dweezil. Dweezil himself has said the point of the exercise was to raise the profile of his dad to younger music fans who might just have heard of Frank as "that comedy song-writer from the 60s". To this end he has succeeded with great care & attention to detail. Dweezils guitar work is absolutely top drawer & the musicianship of his band is at times astonishing. Dweezil took two years out of his own busy schedule to disect every one of Frank's pieces & to learn all the nuances & complexities. With this knowledge he is able to give the audience the same experience as an audience of Frank's had & rather than slavishly copy each note Dweezil has "got inside" his dad's head & plays appropriately. Without direct comparison with the originals you would say Dweezil's interpretations are right on the money & that is the point. Dweezil Zappa is also the best placed person to do this.
I recommend this to newcomers & to older users who may or may not know Zappa but who enjoy inventive music with no boundaries.

Chip off the old block -well worth a chance!

Zappa plays without the man, the sneer, and the mustache
Dweezil plays good versions of his fathers songs. Be aware, they do sound different, which is what we expect. Read more
