1.0 out of 5 stars Not the Original Music Sound Track 22 Nov 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Very annoying. The music sound track has been altered for this Warner Bros edition of the Lorimar film, and an utterly stupid 1950's style intro has been dubbed onto the start of it, thereby totally spoiling the atmosphere. Where the original music had tension and hippy rebelliousness to contrast with the triviality and comedy, this whole dimension is lost. What were they doing? Sanitising it, or sadly messing up their good intentions by giving the job of improvement to idiots more at home with work on the Discovery Channel? Very annoying. So much for the plan to upgrade the video collection to DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty companion to its awesome original 24 July 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The original Return of the Living Dead was not only one of the best horror movies of the 1980s, but also one of the funniest zombie movies ever made; so it was never going to be easy to follow it up. Having seen that original will certainly help to contextualise this film, I'd reckon, but it stands up on its own if you just prefer to plunge straight in.

Actors James Karen and Thom Mathews are both back in this film too. After their incredible, brilliant, over-the-top performances in the first film, they had to be re-invented as new characters (um, probably because science hasn't yet found a way to turn a zombie safely back into a living person - but you can bet those white-coated boffins will be working on it somewhere!) out collecting cadavers when a vat of chemicals rolls off the back of a lorry and spills open... Most of the townsfolk seem to get affected, apart from the few who are trying to survive while also wondering what the heck is going on. Some neat animatronics, make-up and special effects going on here, including some classic scenes you may want to rewind and watch again (assuming you enjoyed it, that is...). Great stuff. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool movie 15 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
I think ROTLD2 is a pretty cool zombie movie and i would highly recommend it to any zombie fan.The story is simple, a bunch of barrels fall of an army transport truck as it travels through a small town, one of the barrels roll into a small river and ends up in a sewage tunnel near a cemetery. Later a couple of bullies find it and decide to crack it open releasing a mysterious green gas which posions the two bullies and unfortunately spreads around the cemetery bringing the dead back to life.
This movie has great humour in it, which is one of reasons why i like it. The acting is fine and the gore is top so if you looking for a zombie movie with a few laughs go for this one!

I now own all the Return Of The Living Dead movies. I know some people don't like them, but it's a personal thing. This disc works great on my all region DVD player.

4.0 out of 5 stars A memorable but flawed sequel.... 12 Jun 2012
With a budget of $6, 000, 000 (that's $2,000,000 more than THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), ROTLD Part II is expectedly slicker than the original in a lot of ways - theres a much bigger scope, with an entire town under siege, increased production values and a lot more extras (what you might call "background actors") - but, as too often is the case when money goes up, the creativity has plummetted. The best scenes in Part II are almost all the ones which riff on things from the first film and that doesn't say much for this film.

Unlike the first film, which functioned as an intense thriller if not a true horror film, this one trades it all in for laughs and then foolishly tries for some thrills along the way too. A word I've often seen used to describe this film is "lame" and while I can't completely disagree that it applies here and there, is this film as lame as a POLICE ACADEMY film, or a late period NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET? Not at all, but I'd be a liar if I said my nostalgia for a childhood watching this film and many others played no part in my affection for this one. Zombies, which provided about a 50:50 laugh to menace ratio in the first film, are almost complete clowns here. In some scenes, they continue to run, fall when shot and resume relentlessly as they did in part 1, and in others fall about drunkenly while the living walk past them. In other words, almost all of the menace of the zombies is gone.

Special effects are both improved from the first film and a disappointment. I prefer the more mechanical, less organic look of the TARMAN in this one, but I can see why most don't. Most of the zombies look like a goofier version of the angular, grey-faced ghouls Tom Savini did for DAY OF THE DEAD, especially their eyes. They're more cartoon than comic book in this outing.

Return of the Living Dead Part 2 is not as good as the original though it runs it pretty close.
Both of the main characters that were killed in the first movie return to this one. Ok that's weird but totally acceptable at the same time since these two work off of each other so well that they make a very welcome return.

ROTLD2 actually gets better as it goes on. Don't expect any frights here and the gore level is very minimal. But the jokes are thick and fast, (the car scene is magic). Again like the original this movie is loaded with likeable characters from all walks of life. It doesn't take itself seriously, yet remains a very enjoyable film.

You won't be disappointed by this sequel, but be aware it was the last good one.
