This is no more than I was expecting, a reasonably tolerable sequel to the remake of Castle's classic. It does not follow the first seamlessly, in terms of plot or effects, but it does try and give an explanation for the horrific events at the sanatarium, and packs in enough entertainment in the running time to be worth the price, especially as the blu ray is currently very cheap. And it is actually rather fun to be able to direct the story; I've tried it too, and it does make a difference to outcomes what you decide. It's a gimmick William Castle would have revelled in. But you do have the option to watch the theatrical edition, so if you haven't yet I would watch that first, so you can see how the plot was supposed to go. The blu ray isn't crystal clear, true, but I think that is actually deliberate rather than a faulty transfer; the picture is very clear and bright where appropriate, but where the scene needs to be gloomy and obscure, that kind of clarity would work against it. Not bad for the pennies.
