I thought i knew about Leon Russell, I knew he wrote Delta Lady and was a bright light backing other people years back but i'd never actually bought one of his own records. Just before Christmas someone sent me an MP3 of a recording of his called 'Hummingbird' which blew me away and on the strength of that I bought the 'Retrospective' album. I havent enjoyed a record as much for a long time. The songs are magnificent, not throwaway southern boogie, they really grab hold, it motors and swells and moves the soul.
Funny thing was I recognised a lot of the songs I had loved way back in the 70s and it turns out Leon Russell wrote them and they are on this album !
Buy it, its really good.

Producer, singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarrist....The old Leon is well represented here with a bunch of his old songs that show us how good musician he is. Passion, fun, energy and 18 shots from his career. A well documented information inside that leads you to get more records of this veteran that is still alive and creating. Hatts off to Leon.

If you have nothing of Leon's,treat yourself to this,which brings all of Leons best known songs into one package.
A great star,with some classic compositions of his own included,including the classic "A Song For You" which has been covered by all the major stars of the business,a giant of the 70's, with every star at that time wanted him on their albums.
