This album is full of great harmony, the vocals sound perfect together. There is no song that isn't at the same high standard of the rest. Right from the first song, i loved the album. The guitars riffs are similar to bands like Sleater-Kinney, with little melodies played against each other. There aren't many albums where you love every song immediately, but this is one of them. "Long Island" is punky and happy, the kind of song you want to dance to , whereas songs like "Hawthorne" are the chance to hear the beautiful melodies.

This is a sunny, summery classic. Three part harmonies, catchy melodies, hooky guitars and perfectly placed violin parts. With Retreat from the sun, we have a band that has perfected their sound and offers it up confidently and with a smile. Anna Waronker's lead is already more than apparent as this was their last album. She would later release a similarly catchy and solid debut album.
