Product Description

It is a most incredible sight: a corpse sitting at the reins of a hansom cab–and not just any corpse, but the body of a peer of the realm. To Inspector Thomas Pitt and his wife, Charlotte, this macabre apparition seems like sheer lunacy. Who would ever want to exhume a decently buried old chap like Lord Augustus Fitzroy-Hammond?

A doctor insists that Lord Augustus’s death was natural. But as far as the police are concerned, there’s certainly nothing natural about any of this gristly aftermath. Inspector Pitt is determined to unearth the truth–even if the digging puts his own life at perilous risk.

Resurrection Row is a wonderfully gruesome novel from Anne Perry. Another in the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series. Her research into the murky world of digging up corpses from a graveyard to get the police to investigate a murder cannot be faulted. It also shows how Charlotte and her sister Emily can use their social connections to help the police in their investigations.

Resurrection Row 1 Nov 2009

Perhaps the least satisfying Charlotte & Thomas novel, so far. Again, interesting characters and excellent social detail, but for me the two strands of the mystery did not come together easily. The hook of someone digging up corpses and leaving them in public places was ghoulishly interesting but didn't really mesh with the solution of the murder. Perhaps this was more a social drama than a whodunnit.

This is the fourth in the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series and is well up to Anne Perry's usual high standard! This one has a particularly ingenious plot and I was delighted to see that the interesting and mildly eccentric Aunt Vespasia is back again. She figured in the previous book, Paragon Walk. Charlotte's brother-in-law, Dominic, figures prominently in this book also.
