Product Description

CD Description

You're never too old to rock and roll, or so the cliche goes, but can you be too young? Not according to Radish. The neo-grunge trio from Texas, led by 15-year-old singer/guitarist Ben Kweller, lets loose a full frontal attack of Nirvana-derived rock anthems that address the usual rock and roll topics of love, hate and boredom, but from a distinctly under-18 perspective.
Songs like "Aunt Arctica" and "Simple Sincerity" show off a predilection for cheery melodies and nagging hooks, keeping the Seattle sound that runs through most every song on RESTRAINING BOLT from becoming too derivative or overbearing. Kweller and his comrades, who were the subject of an industry-wide bidding war and received 100 decibels of hype even before their debut album was released, are clearly in love with rock and roll on both a practical and mythological level. Hopefully, they've learned enough from recenthistory to assimilate the accomplishments of icons like Kurt Cobain and sidestep their tragic mistakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars need not be restrained, 4 Nov 2002
...Radish proved to me that there was life after nirvana and there was the opportunity for the evolution of grunge/pop. A truly blinding album from the poppy little pink stars to the almost brooding bedtime. Not to forget dear aunt arctica, sugar free, teenage bargin and my personal favorites the haunting apparation of purity and the awesome my guitar. If you like the recent post grunge movement-trust me, you will love this album

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, original debut album, 7 May 2002
By A Customer
This Texas originated band have produced a debut album that brings a fresh outlook to the often blurred integrated genre of rock/pop. Radish use a great blend of pop based lyrics backed up by a strong guitar sound, evident in such tracks as 'Little Pink Stars', 'Sugar Free' and 'Today's Bargin'. There are also influences from other bands such as The Beach Boys present in tracks like 'My Guitar', and by opening the album sleeve you find that all their songs have a meaning (to a certain extent), giving the album a greater depth. The only problem is that I have only just begun to appreciate the brilliant music of this band, when it appears now that they have dissapeared from the scene.
