4.0 out of 5 stars Fell at the final hurdle! 18 May 2014
By Theo

It feels churlish to mark down a book which the author has been kind enough to give away on Kindle; and I am grateful to him for so doing. I have just read Tozer on the same subject and this book stands up well at the side of him. The chapter on unity should be compulsory reading for all church leadership groups and the General Synod could certainly learn from it. Discerning the will of Jesus is not easy, but crucial if we are not to spent our time on fruitless works. I was about to give the book 10/5 until the last chapter when the author deviated from a sound scriptural base into a quagmire of supposition.

I was brought up in an evangelical family and drifted away for 20 years or so (racing yachts was far more exciting). When i returned someone had invented the "worship group", an entity which the church had done without until that time. I scoured my bible without success; i could find no mention of a worship group. Not even Paul mentioned it in his letter to the Ephesians when he said "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ can be built up." He missed the worship leaders!

The other coincidence was that these worship leaders were playing the exact same instuments as "pop" groups; there couldn't possibly be a connection, could there? (Read "Can we Rock the Gospel by John Blanchard & Dan Lucarini" for an answer to that question).

The process through which the author takes the build up from praise to worship is only one which has been arrived at in the last 40 years or so. I love singing.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing - packed full of revelation. 11 May 2014

A classic to be discovered. Not a word wasted - every single paragraph is packed full of revelation, sprung only from the author's personal walk with The Lord. Hits the reader hard and fast in his or her spirit. Inspiring, full of truths. Once found, I'm sure this book will be a must-read amongst Christian circles. It has a revolutionary message, one that we, the bride, must take on board.

4.0 out of 5 stars √ When the Music Sounds ... 28 May 2014
By Bassocantor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am pleased to be the very first reviewer of this fine little book. Of the entire book, there is one line that says it all:

"We should be getting people who are first and foremost worshippers." Amen! Nicely stated!

▲ Very insightful of author to note that music is not the same as worship. Being a great musician means nothing about the heart of worship. He suggests less of an emphasis on purely musical ability, and more emphasis on the heart of the individual, and especially the attitude of the worship leader. "A worship leader must be both a worshiper and a leader."

All in all, a very complete discussion on the biblical history of worship, and suggestions for the modern church. I thought the tone was a bit preachy at times, but I have a short attention span (too much watching of TV shows like, "24")

√ Recommend!

2.0 out of 5 stars Buried Treasure 17 July 2014
By Aidan Rogers - Published on Amazon.com

This book has plenty of good information, I think....but it's buried in BAD writing. As I read through the book, trying to pick out the worthy material, I was just begging this writer to get a strong editor and go at this book again. I think it's valuable, but it's completely lost in the mess of words.

It has not been proofed, at least not in the sense of making sure every word is actually a word and every sentence, a sentence. Most are not. And every idea is repeated 4-5 times in a row, which makes for agonizing reading. For example, here's one paragraph from the book:

"The Tabernacale that David established was different to Moses'. David established a tabernacle, which also housed the Ark of the Covenant. It was where David housed the Ark, for 40 years, until the temple was built, in 964 BC. (See 2 Samuel 6, 1 Chronicles 13-16.) This Tabernacle was different in nature to Moses'."

See what I mean? Almost every paragraph is like this. Such difficult reading. A shame, when the material could be so powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the returning backslider! 23 Jun 2014

A great reminder to those who have lost their way into the presence of God. Putting things in the proper order, remembering the importance of surrender, and obedience. This book makes clear the difference between praise and worship, the proper order, and goes on spelling out the reasons. If you have found something's missing in your walk with the Lord, this book can help RESTORE it.
