Wonderful to hear the old warhorse has a new lease of life ! 23 Oct 2007

The organ ,not Thomas!. I could not believe he was only using 2 feet to play the Variations but with a name like Trotter maybe i shouldn't have been surprised! Bever heard Elegy or Lemares Carmen sound better...they suit this instrument so well. Magical playing from a maestro on an instrument that sure gives the RAH organ a run for its money. More please, and soon !

This is a tour de force of music that shows off in many ways the versatility of this instrument and the talent of the organist, Thomas Trotter. The opening pieces by Handel are spine-tingling and then you move to a wonderful set of variations on pedals, concluding at track 16 with the Elegy by Thalben-Ball, which is one of my favourite pieces of music for organ. The fantasia on the Welsh March is spectacular, again showing the capability of both musician and organ, but the piece de resistance is the Rienzi Overture. The music is amazing and Mr Trotter is absolutely splendid. It does take a number of playings to fully appreciate the quality of this recording, but I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys organ music.

Thomas Trotter is a fine organist and this recording is up to the standard one might expect. I congratulate the company, Regent Records, on their work too. I have listened to Trotter playing most of the pieces on this CD over the last week in Birmingham celebrating our glorious newly restored organ. Thanks to Thomas Trotter among many others. If you like the sound of a fine organ this CD will give you great pleasure.
