Building on their previous aggressive but melodic offering, 'Breaker', Accept charged back with Restless & Wild - arguably the definitive album that kick started the speed metal revolution. With their trademark flying V guitars, double bass drum and snarling vocals, the world of rock would never be the same. The twin guitar duels between the legendary Wolf Hoffman and new boy Herman Frank Jnr. are a joy. The running bass of Peter Baltes complementing the power drumming of Stefan Kaufman makes your body move uncontrollably to the beat. Mixed with the hard, distinctive voice of Udo Dirschneider, the result is a spiritually uplifting experience that sends your mind to a plane of aggressive nihilism.

The Teutonic tunes kick off to a flying start with Fast as a Shark - don't worry about the lyrics - how much English would you know if you were in their shoes? From the crackly pseudo intro of a traditional folksong record being ripped off the turntable by a screaming Udo, the scene is set. Riffing is fierce, the tempo is fast (for those days anyway) and the overall effect makes your hair stand on end.

Restless & Wild is a pure expression of the frustrated futility of discontented youth. The song is a classic and should be presented to Rock's Hall of Fame for its rightful place of honour.

Demon's Night is the oddball from the pack as it reverts to stereotypical heavy metal making it tediously boring. The following two songs could also have easily fallen into this trap with the exception that the guitar work is so beautiful, while meshed to an unstoppable beat.

Neon Nights is moody, broody and encapsulates the vibe and spirit of Berlin / Hamburg nightlife. Drink hard, put on your headphones and listen to the sweat stained, smoked filled sonics....

Other highlights include the speed and pleasure of Fast Rocking Man and the innovative dynamics of Princess of the Dawn, whose guitar work will be absorbed into your mind forever.

To summarise the power, musicianship and single minded intent of a hungry band who know they are going places has produced a classic which sets itself as a milestone in rock history. Accept were one of the catalysts of transition from the traditional and increasingly irrelevant Heavy Metal to the spawning thrash revolution of Metallica, Anthrax and Death Angel.

The opening wail of Accept's finest release tells us all we need to know.Like a knife cutting through a heavy metal cake or a confused banshee screeching down the Berlin Wall these Germans took metal to a new dawn and then laid out their beach towels for all to see.Opening with the willfully frantic 'Fast As A Shark' we are thrown into a world never before (or since) dealt with,that is, inside the mind of a shark.Twisting and turning,eyes razor sharp, teeth even more so,we are at the mercy of this musical beast and it's teeth sink deeper until the albums
sweat drenched conclusion leaves you feeling brutulised but strangely languid.However,it's not all riffamania for on the quite beautiful 'Neon Nights' the guys show us a mysterious and reflective side.Shrouded in factory smoke,broken hearts and the stench of impurity 'Neon Nights' is a modern masterpiece only to be rivalled by the great German composers themselves,tears now flowing stain my keyboard as i write this.Stunning.'Flash Man Rockin' picks up the pace and reminds us of how lyrically beguilling Udo can be, cunning satire mixed with a pinch of surrealism.My other favourite here is the insomniac anthem and title track 'Restless & Wild'.If you only ever buy one Accept album (a crime itself) make sure it's this one.

After seeing these chaps at Donnington, I was hooked. Little Udo beltin' voice ringing through the halls on campus before exams was enuff to stir the soul! Fast as a shark...sweet! Princess...a classic...Accept rocked...buy it, crank up the volume and ignore the neighbours!!

I bought this album on vinyl based on a performance I saw at the Donington 'Monsters of Rock' Fast as a shark must be one of the original thrash anthems of all time, but album is worth buying alone for restless and wild, an absoloute must have and classic heavy metal track. The rest of the album stands up too, you will not be dissappointed.

it was an exceptional vinyl, worn sensless by continious play, years go by and it still blows your brains out,shake your head-it still hurts,it should carry a govt health warning, not only is it restless and wild. it is dangerous.

This is one of the best metal albums around , Princess of the dawn is my favourite track and its worth buying the album just for this track alone , but every track is amazing the quality is superb and its great in the car CD player blasted out . overall amazing cd, I highly recommend this album

When I first heard this I thought it was great. Then I realised that my speakers were turned off.

I still can't believe Jurgen Klinsmann's guitar work.

If you play the album at 33rpm you'll realise that it is none other than a version of George Formby's 'Don't the Wind blow Cold'poorly translated into Bavarian slang.
