4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding collection for the true Pogues enthusiast., 30 April 2001
The Best Of The Rest fills in the gaps that both The 1991 and 2001 Best of compilations left yawning. Tracks such as The Boys from The County Hell and Old Main Drag are real contenders for some of Macgowan's finest moments, with the latter being a stroke of true genius. Commerciality is not a label that sits well with The Pogues nor does it suit them, that is why this record is important. It counterbalances the garish cash-in of the Best Of by providing a rougher, truer angle to the music of The Pogues. If you like a few of their songs and are not really into them, buy The Best Of, however if your into discovering more and getting a broader spectrum of what they are about buy The Best Of The Rest too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Volume Not Second Rate, 14 Jan 2008
Released the year after `The Best of the Pogues' this was to plug the gaps left by that album as well as maintain interest in the New Pogues who had by now decided Spider Stacy would come from behind his tin whistle to become the new singer. Stacy had previous deuted with MacGowan on some two handed songs and generally had a lead vocal on most of The Pogues albums of which `Jesse James' was possibly the most successful. In order to promote the album Stacy's lead vocal on The Stones `Honky Tonk Women' was dragged of the 12" of `Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah' onto the collection and also released as a single.

The single, this album and indeed The Pogues Mark 2 failed to make any impression on the worlds consciousness however if coupled with the original `Best of' this does make for the most comprehensive anthology of the original Pogues. That said the single CD `The Very Best of the Pogues' released shortly before the band started annually reforming is possibly the most concise and economically introduction to the band.
