If you are planning on getting your personal training certification through ACSM, then I would highly recommend this book as an excellent study guide for using as part of your overall study plan when preparing for the exam.
Just to warn everyone...there is a ton of information in this review guide, and yes alot of it will be on the exam. I particulary liked the layout of the information presented, as it was well-organized and structured in a way that you can find a specific topic quickly without having to search through the entire book.
Another fair WARNING TO ALL, especially people new to the personal training industry...
This book, this certification, and really any certification that I know of does not cover the business side of p.t. and does not teach any type of selling skills what-so-ever. I've been training for about six years (I had NSCA when I first started), and I cannot stress enough how important it is to know how to sell yourself and your services to customers and clients.
If you're a trainer in a health club you should, take a look at
The Personal Training Sales Education Textbook: A simple and effective sales system designed specifically for the personal trainer in the health club. (Volume 1). I read this book years ago and the selling system they talk about was responsible for me being able to quit my other job and start training full-time, and signing up more clients than I could handle.
There are some other good business books on the market also that deal with personal training outside a health club, but this by far the best book I've ever read pertaining to selling in health clubs.
