Product Description

CD Description
Veruca Salt has successfully weathered its personnel crisesand returns as strong and defiant as ever. Sole remaining founding member Louise Post has started afresh with a new label and a new band to orchestrate her musical vision; the result is RESOLVER.
"The Same Person" opens gently with a mantra segueing into "Born Entertainer", featuring Post's trademark double-octave vocals and a clever Cheap Trick pun. Upbeat vocal harmonies contrast severely with the abrasive lyrics of "Best You Can Get", while the melancholy power-ballad "All Dressed Up" tells the tale of a woman trying to reinvent herself to please her lover, and finding the cause an empty and unrewarding one. "Used To Know Her" could pass for a lament over the departure of co-founder Nina Gordon. "Yeah Man" contrasts quiet verses with big, vocal harmony-heavy choruses, and "Disconnected" features Louise sounding desperately emotional, with lines such as "it's kind of scary when you're lover leaves you for a lucky star". While RESOLVER focuses on varying degrees of romantic discontent, Louise Post appears quite comfortable at the helm of a revitalised Veruca Salt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Born Entertainer, 23 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Following Veruca Salt's split-up following the "Eight Arms To Hold You" album, few would have expected the band to resurface, and fewer still would have expected the album to be this good. Although Louise Post is the only surviving member of the original line-up, the band still manages to maintain the 'Salt sound whilst pushing past the stadium rock of the previous album into a more modern, metal style. The album is more jagged and darker than previous releases, yet still manages the catchy hooks the band is known for. Amongst the raucous rock of the album, the group still find place for quieter moments, such as "Disconnected" and "Pretty Boys".
Louise Post has proved she can cut it on her own, without the aid of Nina Gordon, and like she says in track 9 - she's a "Born Entertainer"

4.0 out of 5 stars Infectuous groovy grungy pop, love it., 6 Sep 2001

This is the album that restored my faith in guitar music, and proved that grunge isn't dead. The catchiest guitar riffs, the grooviest drumming, the most emotional singing and lyrics (without sounding too whiny). It's a much darker affair than the previous two Veruca Salt albums, there's a lot of bitterness towards an ex-lover in the lyrics. Occasionally they don't quite get it right or there's a lyric that grates, but most of the time they do and when they do it's incredible. This is a great album, a must for any rock fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rebuilding the band - a steady if not spetacular start, 16 Nov 2001
Resolver is the first album from the new Veruca Salt lineup. "American Thighs" was essentially introspective with the occasional little rocker. "Eight Arms to Hold You" slammed into your senses from the word go and looked set to launch the band into the top bracket.

Sadly, since then there have been personnel changes, with Resolver being the first effort from the new lineup.

More "Thighs" in nature than "Eight", Resolver is in some ways a mix of the two. There is an obvious shedding of bitterness in the lyrics - aimed towards a certain former vocalist perhaps?

The overall result is erratic. Sometimes they get it very right, other tracks are, frankly, a bit of a mess and not up to the high standard which the band had established for themselves in the previous two albums.

Overall, not a bad start for the new lineup, but lets hope the next one sees a return to the more driven, focussed effort produced on "Eight Arms"
