Product Description

Review

A useful guide for those who new to NLP and experienced practitioners who want to develop their skills. This accessible text is particularly useful for healthcare practitioners who want to know more about how persuasion can change attitudes. The book provides a comprehensive guide to the application of NLP within psychotherapy and powerfully describes potential positive outcomes for both therapists and service users. Chapter 2 specifically deals with how emotional states effect the brain and Chapter 3 focuses upon intervention choices and how to change submodalities. Chapter 4 considers specific disorders and acknowledges the difficulty of helping complex cases. The author defines difficult and technical terms such as 'trancework' and 'parts integration' and provides a straightforward account of the principles underlying NLP. The second half of the book is dedicated to exploring 'choices for change' and using advanced NLP techniques within established theoretical models such as Motivational Interviewing. A particular strength of the book is that it makes generous use of case transcripts to demonstrate the practical application of NLP techniques in counselling and psychotherapy. Overall this is a very accessible text, which clearly explains the subject and is highly recommended for clinicians' students and laypeople alike. I am amazed at how much information Richard Bolstad has packed into barely 200 pages. This is the most widely researched and referenced NLP book I have read; and it is extremely well written too. With a relaxed, readable style, Dr Bolstad gives superb coverage of the main tools in NLP, linking them to other psycho-therapeutic approaches, and providing some really useful case studies of the techniques in practice. In the second part of the book he presents his RESOLVE framework for working with NLP - simple but effective. This is not a "how to book" (other books will give you step-by-step instructions for NLP techniques) so a good working knowledge of NLP will help you get the most from this book, but for the experienced NLPer, or someone from a background in other psychological approaches, this is a must read. I can't put into words how much I enjoyed this book. Well written, fantastically researched, and incredibly practical, this jumps straight into my top 3 NLP books. If you work with NLP, get this book!.

This book is a real gem... At last an up-to-date and evidence-based framework for NLP as a therapy. Contained within this book is a robust and effective model for integrating some of the diverse elements of NLP into a coherent and cohesive whole.

Alongside some of the author's articles on specific work with 'psychiatric' populations (available via his website)this book usefully reformulates psychiatric nominalisations/inductions such as 'borderline personality disorder' and 'schizophrenia' into NLP terms and understandings and then provides the model through which the NLP practitioner can effectively help the person to make useful changes...

Whats more there are some interesting ideas about state dependant memories and learning which offer a brain/neurological based understanding of parts and unconscious process and how to use such a model within therapeutic work which I have found very useful in my clinical practice...

All in all, quality stuff.

NLP plus wisdom 17 Sep 2010

in my view:

unlike lots of pure talking therapies, does not leave the client alone with insight and no practical methods to explore the changed self;

unlike pure NLP, does not deny the client telling and re-experiencing their story, a witness and a better parenting experience.

also he compares NLP change techniques with a host of other traditional therapeutic approaches which enriched my other knowledge.

finally, NLP Therapy without the fanfare. thanks mate.

Awww! gedit!

Peace, Love and good things.

Ez. London.
