Amazon.co.uk Review

In a residency which spanned 84 sets, 8000 records and 1,992,600 beats, Paul Oakenfold cemented both his position as this country's most popular DJ and Cream's as its foremost club. Making the Courtyard area of Liverpool's Nation venue his own, he attracted a weekly crowd which became notorious for its zealous devotion, and was arguably the first British jock to stamp his mark on a club in the manner of American DJ Junior Vasquez at New York's Sound Factory. This double album boasts 28 of the tracks which made Oakenfold's time at Cream so unforgettable, moving smoothly from shiny, melodic house to harder-edged, driving trance beats. Regular favourites such as Underworld's "Dark And Long" and CJ Bolland's "The Prophet" are mixed in the seamless fashion for which the man has become known, and the inclusion of live crowd noise lends the collection a rare immediacy. --Ed Potton

Choons, that is the one word I would use to describe this CD. Although it is over a year old, this is still one of the best Trance compilations you can buy. Disk 1 contains some absolutly blinding tracks, Shine by the Space Brothers will have you standing in your living room with your arms spread and CJ Bollands The Prophet will have you dancing in the streets. Most Trance compilations will have maybe 4 tracks on each disk that will be choons. Every track over both CD's are choons. The atmosphere in the courtyard comes accross and it is almost like having the best DJ in the world in your living room. All I can say is buy this CD and your life will be better.

It is easy to see why Paul Oakenfold is noted as the most successful and best DJ in the world just from listening to this classic example: Resident. Mixed beautifully from one flowing, melodic tune to the next its enough to keep any true clubber on the dance floor for hours. The choice of records and mixing is so astoundingly good it easily pushes Oakenfold out in front of the rest.

What can you say about someone like Paul Oakenfold? He is just fantastic, this double set cd proves why he is the best DJ in the world. The journey that Oakenfold takes you on is simply fantastic, complemented by the flawless mixing and track selection (the transition into Robert Miles's Children is just amazing). Oakey is GOD, that's all you need to know. THe sense of peace and ambience he conveys is an out of this world experience. If you dont have this album, dont hesitate to buy it...ur life will be enhanced guaranteed!

This is the album of the residency that put trance back into the public eye. It has huge tunes all the way through. On CD2 the beggining shows you the quality of the whole album, Somersault, Wide Open Space followed by Rendezvous. You can't get better than that. The great tunes along with Paul's smooth djing make this the best Trance album ever. Even if you don't like trance this album is worth a look, I usually hate trance but I love this. The highlight is Brainbug-Nightmare, it's such a sinister tune but it still makes you dance. GREAT ALBUM!

This cd has been played almost constantly in my student flat ever since my mate lent it to us - so i bought us our own copy. It is an amazing mix - you could listen to both cd's back to back and be totally entranced, uplifted and unable to sit still. The mixing of tracks is outstanding. It is a far better buy than any of the current compilations doing the rounds. Most of the tracks I hadn't heard of, there are no commercial tracks. I know that I will listen to this cd for ever (!) and if you are considering buying it, it is a must - you will not be disappointed.

Undoubtedly the greatest trance album ever!! tune after tune after tune after tune, Oakey's greatest moments relived from the now legendary Courtyard sessions. If you do not have this album go and buy it NOW! It has everything from the oustanding vocal tracks like 'Someone', 'Butterfly' & 'Skydive' (awesome) to downright dirty trance 'Nightmare' 'Dark & Long' and 'Prophase' not to mention timeless beauties 'Wide Open Space', 'Eispaer' and the unforgetable 'The Prophet'. There is simply not a tune on this album which doesn't make your palms sweat or make you long for the days of 1,500 mad-heads losing the plot in the Courtyard with Oakey bouncing in the dj box......the live crowd sounds reminiscent only to those of us that have been there. A must have album for any clubber past or present.

This CD still plays in my car now... 12 years after release! I was at Cream Boxing Night 1998 when the second mix was recorded in the Courtyard. Oakey only had one more gig left after this when his residency ended.

Every tune on this CD has gone down in history. Each is now an anthem thanks to it.

CD1 has tracks such as Y-Traxx 'Mystery Land, Underworld 'Dark n' Long', Three n One 'Sin City and ends with the legendary 'Prophet' by CJ Bolland... Class...

CD2, for me, is perfection... It captures the essence of Cream, the Courtyard, the crowd and the DJ. Oakeys mixing is seamless and smooth... Some mixes are drawn out while others not so, but it all works beautifully. The highlights of this CD for me is Stoneproof 'Everythings not You', Groovezone 'Eisbaer' and Tekara 'Breathe in You'. All masterpieces of trance/prog house.

This CD is a must own. Even if you dont like trance. Its a moment in time. A legendary residency. A legendary club and crowd. I'm sure it will still be in my cars CD player for another 12 years... and beyond...

Though this is now almost 3 years old I have only bought it recently. Surpising to find therefore that it still sounds utterly superb. Shine hasn't aged a bit and CJ Bollands The prophet still sounds fantastic. Will take you back to an era before prog when trance really was worth listening to.
