The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third person shooters. It is September 1998 and the action centres on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (USS) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin and over powering the team. During the battle the deadly ‘t-Virus’ is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.
Hearing of the outbreak, the USS team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure service (UBCS) is also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Soldier (U.S.S) and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. Choose from six characters,each one equipped with a unique skill set, including the female field scientist Four-Eyes who can manipulate the T-virus and take control of the B.O.W’s raiding the streets of Raccoon City or the weapons expert and U.S.S team captain Lupo.

It is September 1998 and the action centres once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella's actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.
Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

The first thing is that Capcom may have its name on this game (and in retrospect may wish they hadn't), it is in fact the offspring of a company called Slant Six. I am informed that Slant Six has been responsible for some of the worst games available.
It is a team based game, but you can play it alone if you really want to put yourself through it. If you do play solo then you get a team of semi-useless AI characters. It is possible to complete the game this way, but it isn't easy. Yes it is a little better as a multiplayer, but not much.
The "story" takes place during the time frame of Resi 2 and 3.
You start off with the "Wolfpack". Remember them, the team that went in with Hunk (the Grim Reaper) to recover the G-virus that Birkin was going to hand over to the US government and was wiped out by the G-Birkin, the only known survivor being team leader Hunk himself. Sadly, you can't play Hunk himself; you are just one of the team. All of that is Resi Law it's in RE2 - Leon and Clare go running round Raccoon City and run into Ada and the Birkins, and a lot of zombies.
It should have been interesting, the whole story from the Umbrella side - like with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles where the whole story was told through Albert Wesker's eyes. It is a sub-story telling how the umbrella spec-ops feared during the 2nd and 3rd installments of the game. In short you won't care as none of the playable characters have any substance to them.
I've played through it twice now, it is just too glitchy! Rubbish gun control, special abilities that do very little, appalling AI characters that will just kill themeselves over and over. The list goes on.
There are not enough models of zombies, you find yourself shooting the same one over and over again... It's as if Racoon City was inhabitited by twins and triplets!
In the game you encounter bigger BOs like Hunters and Lickers (I was excited too), but they are awful. The Hunters are more or less invisible and the lickers seem to hover as if they dicovered levitation in one of the labs underneath Racoon City.
This game could have been so much better if Capcom had just done it themselves. I believe Slant Six (I've not played anything from them before) are the ones to blame here. They were given one of the leading game titles to use and didn't take much care in delivering a good product, they rose on the success of the brand.
Resident Evil sells, we all know that... But only a good Resident Evil game is remembered.
My advice... Wait for RE6

You play through the game as the USS, yeah theyre cool but once you complete the game, you have to BUY another 7 missions just so you can see the perspective of the Spec Ops. which makes no sense, you should be able to decide at the start which side you want to play as, and be able to stop and start with the other team.
I finished the game in like, a day (totaly not worth the £30 i paid for), although i enjoyed it, i was very 'glitchy' and seemed like they rushed the development of the game. Ive experienced, grenades not going off, zombies taking to long to blow apart (like 15 seconds after i blasted them with a riot gun) and before i went to fight nicholi outside the mansion, i was locked out of the gate and was unable to fight, and as i was playing online my teamates cound not find me :(
So basically Campcom is trying to squeeze more money out of us (as if £30 isnt enough for such a crappy game), obviously you can choose to buy the Spec Ops Mission, and i did becasue i wanted to see their side. (in total it cost me £16 for their 7 misions)
CAPCOM MUST LISTEN AND NOT MAKE US PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD ALREADY HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE GAME, RESIDENT EVIL 6 BETTER BE WORTH THE £40 OTHERWISE IM RETURNING IT AND NEVER BUYING ANOHTER RESI GAME AGAIN!!!!!
