Manufacturer's Description

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third-person team-based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Not only does this setting provide a rich backdrop to the action but it also delivers a unique and brutal triple-threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) add to the mix as players compete against their team’s opposing squad and tackle this third, unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe.

The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third person shooters. It is September 1998 and the action centres on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (USS) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin and over powering the team. During the battle the deadly ‘t-Virus’ is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.

Hearing of the outbreak, the USS team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure service (UBCS) is also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Soldier (U.S.S) and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. Choose from six characters, each one equipped with a unique skill set, including the female field scientist Four-Eyes who can manipulate the T-virus and take control of the B.O.W’s raiding the streets of Raccoon City or the weapons expert and U.S.S team captain Lupo.

Features:

  • Team based shooter set in the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe.
  • Triple threat battle as zombies and B.O.W’s add to the action.
  • Return of favourite RE enemies, including Hunters, Tyrants and the Nemesis.
  • Risk infection from the hordes of zombies, zombie dogs and lickers. Fight to survive with anti-viral sprays, your character’s special skills or help from field scientist Bertha before your character’s condition worsens, turning you into a violent zombie who will attack your own team members.
  • Compete with up to three friends as an Umbrella Security Service squad member in Campaign mode.
  • Choose from six U.S.S characters, each with their own unique skill set and roles.
  • Rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak. Destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement at the City Hall and discover UBCS operative Nicholai Ginovaef’s true intentions.
  • Explore Raccoon City, collecting evidence and intel to report back to Umbrella command.
  • Competitive online multiplayer modes provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three corner combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W’s.

Product Description

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. The setting of the Resident Evil universe not only provides a rich backdrop to the action but delivers a unique and thrilling triple threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W's) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

It is September 1998 and the action centres once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella's actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

In addition, Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City

2.0 out of 5 stars Karl's Resident Evil: ORC Review 14 April 2012
By Karl

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I preordered this game with the hopes it would be great fun, but the story was very poor, there was absolutely no depth to it. the characters are very easily forgettable and I could not care less about them or there mission and when i wanted to lose my frustrations and kill stuff I was equally annoyed by the auto targeting system which seemed to have a habit of aiming at the torso, so head shots on a zombie, who was behind a wall, but exposing his head, was impossible with auto aim. so definitely make sure you turn that off.
On the bright side though multiplayer was pretty fun at times, especially the team deathmatch and the Graphics are also not too bad at all.
To any fans of the Resident Evil franchise who have played it since Resi 1, it is not a resident evil game, no longer a survival horror and more of a run and gun.
If you enjoy 3rd person shooters and action games you may enjoy the action element of this game. but those who enjoy storytelling, horror and great characters, this game has none of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, a decent action-shooter 23 May 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I confess I bought Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City only after reading about how bad it was. Truly, this game has received such a negative press, I could not help feeding my curiosity, so after watching a few YouTube gameplay videos to see what it looked like (and concluding it looked alright), I bought it.

The truth is, there are two ways of approaching this game:

(i) If you are a die-hard Resident Evil fan, then it is likely you will approach Operation Raccoon City with certain preconceptions in mind about what Resident Evil is all about. For me personally, RE is all about atmosphere. There is something distinctly "Resident Evil-esque" about a game which makes it deserving of carrying the RE title, which is why I did not complain when Resident Evil 4 operated that revolution in gameplay that proved to be a great success for Capcom. In this respect, Operation Raccoon City may be somewhat lacking: firstly, the side-story of the game itself is not well developed. Put simply, you learn nothing knew in the course of the game about what happened in 1998 in Raccoon City. There is little or no relation with the main title series story-line. The characters are also fairly obscure: you know nothing of them (except a summary of their abilities), and it is unlikely you will develop any sympathy for them as you progress. Of course, there are sporadic direct references to Resident Evil 2 and 3 (the presence of zombies, I suppose), but most of the time you will simply be crossing levels, shooting militia men and zombies, and it will not be necessarily apparent to you that this is a Resident Evil game. This is unfortunate, because had the hypothethical scenario and its characters been explored and narrated with a little more detail, and connected with the main story-line of the second and third titles, it could have shed new lights on the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and it would have made Operation Raccoon City deserving of being a true RE game spin-off. In this regard, the game is a huge disappointment: it's just an action-shooter like any other.

(ii) The foregoing does not, however, imply that this is a bad game. It may be disappointing in that it lacks atmosphere, but, in my opinion, it is still a good and fun action-shooter. If you approach this game from a perspective of the neutral gamer, in my opinion, you will not be so harsh on it. Of course, people are absolutely right when they complain of the AI, both of your team members and opponents, but it is by no means an obstacle to enjoyment and in all honesty I have to say I have seen a lot worse. There are also a few glitches here and there - not many, and certainly not enough to notice and cause great frustration. Aside from those points of criticism, this game is a blast. It's a fun, and at times intense and exhilarating shooting game. Remove the Resident Evil tag on the box, and you have a good, albeit flawed, gaming experience. It may not be the best action game you will ever play, but if you approach it with a free mind, I don't think you will necessarily regret spending nearly £40 on this.

In conclusion, I concede that, from the perspective of a RE fan, this game is a major disappointment. Operation Raccoon City fails to develop what may have been an interesting side-story, from Umbrella Corp.'s perspective. As such, it lacks a distinctively RE-branded atmosphere. And I suppose that, being a pure shooting/action game, that in itself will disappoint those who loved especially the relatively slow pace of RE 1, 2 and 3. I think RE fans have a fair point when criticising this game for what it is. On the other hand, Operation Raccoon City is really not that bad an action game. Seriously, there is so much worse out there. The graphics are very good, the gameplay is totally accessible, and although it may lack in Resident Evil atmosphere, it is a bad-ass game in its own ways and therefore fun and entertaining.
I do think you could enjoy this, if you are a casual gamer or someone who has never been steeped in Resident Evil originalist/traditionalist ideology. Consider either buying it now, if you have the cash; otherwise, wait for it to drop in price, say about £20-£25 or lower, and then get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing but worth a shot when price drops 15 April 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I will start by saying do not compare this to other resident evil titles because it is not in the same league and in many ways seems to be capcom using the resident evil name just to sell titles ( which will work ) The stragegy worked on me and i rushed out with my almost £40 to buy this game thinking i was in for a treat of a game just like resident evil 1-5. Unfortunately like many other spin off titles this doesnt live up to the main resident evil games and before anyone says i should of known this i agree with you i should have. After my 1st impressions of feeling ripped off i gave the game more of a chance and actually found some of it enjoyable. The team style play is a bit annoying as the ai isnt the greatest from your team mates but if your friends are playing then it can be good fun. The multiplayer is a bit of a rip off having to pay for the most interesting game mode but can be a change to the usual online play of fps games. Nothing about this game is great but just ok. I dont think im being un-realistic when i say this game should have been released at a lower price of £20 it just doesnt live up to standards of a usual full price xbox game and capcom have pulled off a bit of a scam
