Manufacturer's Description

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third-person team-based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Not only does this setting provide a rich backdrop to the action but it also delivers a unique and brutal triple-threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) add to the mix as players compete against their team’s opposing squad and tackle this third, unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe.

The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third person shooters. It is September 1998 and the action centres on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (USS) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin and over powering the team. During the battle the deadly ‘t-Virus’ is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.

Hearing of the outbreak, the USS team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure service (UBCS) is also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Soldier (U.S.S) and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. Choose from six characters, each one equipped with a unique skill set, including the female field scientist Four-Eyes who can manipulate the T-virus and take control of the B.O.W’s raiding the streets of Raccoon City or the weapons expert and U.S.S team captain Lupo.

Features:

  • Team based shooter set in the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe.
  • Triple threat battle as zombies and B.O.W’s add to the action.
  • Return of favourite RE enemies, including Hunters, Tyrants and the Nemesis.
  • Risk infection from the hordes of zombies, zombie dogs and lickers. Fight to survive with anti-viral sprays, your character’s special skills or help from field scientist Bertha before your character’s condition worsens, turning you into a violent zombie who will attack your own team members.
  • Compete with up to three friends as an Umbrella Security Service squad member in Campaign mode.
  • Choose from six U.S.S characters, each with their own unique skill set and roles.
  • Rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak. Destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement at the City Hall and discover UBCS operative Nicholai Ginovaef’s true intentions.
  • Explore Raccoon City, collecting evidence and intel to report back to Umbrella command.
  • Competitive online multiplayer modes provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three corner combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W’s.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tacky & Lazy 10 April 2012
By Diggerz

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Im sorry but im one of the biggest fans of the RE games. But since number 4 when it started to get childish and have no fear factor i was hoping they would make a come back. But sadly they have not with 5 & This, as this game is very tacky, its like a worst version of Left 4 Dead which is actually more fun because the killing of the zombies is more realistic and you dont have annoying Mercenaries trying to kill you who take a million rounds to put down if its on any difficulty above easy...

As Someone else has said, its just a lame and lazy 3rd person shooter with a view links to RE2 thrown in which of course contradict themselves because when i was playing as Leon on both Scenarios on RE2, i dont remember being chased by a team with technology that could never have been invented yet (1998 the game was set if you didn't know)

With number 6 coming out in November, im hoping they redeem themselves and make it all about the fear

So to sum up, probably worth buying if you are a collector. But as for a quick shoot em up, do not waste your money even renting it. Only bring it home if you find it in a recycling bin for free.

Ordered saturday, arrived monday. Good game. Ignore IGN's bad reviews. Though, the CPU/AI players are totally usless. This game is best for those who are online, there-by able to take advantage of the 2 -4 player campaign co-op. The dlc is well worth picking up too. Alot of people I play with online actually prefear the two campaign DLC pack's (making up six missions) following a team called Echo Six. The first Echo Six mission is available to download for free from XBOX LIVE.

2.0 out of 5 stars Karl's Resident Evil: ORC Review 14 April 2012
By Karl

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I preordered this game with the hopes it would be great fun, but the story was very poor, there was absolutely no depth to it. the characters are very easily forgettable and I could not care less about them or there mission and when i wanted to lose my frustrations and kill stuff I was equally annoyed by the auto targeting system which seemed to have a habit of aiming at the torso, so head shots on a zombie, who was behind a wall, but exposing his head, was impossible with auto aim. so definitely make sure you turn that off.
On the bright side though multiplayer was pretty fun at times, especially the team deathmatch and the Graphics are also not too bad at all.
To any fans of the Resident Evil franchise who have played it since Resi 1, it is not a resident evil game, no longer a survival horror and more of a run and gun.
If you enjoy 3rd person shooters and action games you may enjoy the action element of this game. but those who enjoy storytelling, horror and great characters, this game has none of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, a decent action-shooter 23 May 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I confess I bought Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City only after reading about how bad it was. Truly, this game has received such a negative press, I could not help feeding my curiosity, so after watching a few YouTube gameplay videos to see what it looked like (and concluding it looked alright), I bought it.

The truth is, there are two ways of approaching this game:

(i) If you are a die-hard Resident Evil fan, then it is likely you will approach Operation Raccoon City with certain preconceptions in mind about what Resident Evil is all about. For me personally, RE is all about atmosphere. There is something distinctly "Resident Evil-esque" about a game which makes it deserving of carrying the RE title, which is why I did not complain when Resident Evil 4 operated that revolution in gameplay that proved to be a great success for Capcom. In this respect, Operation Raccoon City may be somewhat lacking: firstly, the side-story of the game itself is not well developed. Put simply, you learn nothing knew in the course of the game about what happened in 1998 in Raccoon City. There is little or no relation with the main title series story-line. The characters are also fairly obscure: you know nothing of them (except a summary of their abilities), and it is unlikely you will develop any sympathy for them as you progress. Of course, there are sporadic direct references to Resident Evil 2 and 3 (the presence of zombies, I suppose), but most of the time you will simply be crossing levels, shooting militia men and zombies, and it will not be necessarily apparent to you that this is a Resident Evil game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing but worth a shot when price drops 15 April 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I will start by saying do not compare this to other resident evil titles because it is not in the same league and in many ways seems to be capcom using the resident evil name just to sell titles ( which will work ) The stragegy worked on me and i rushed out with my almost 40 to buy this game thinking i was in for a treat of a game just like resident evil 1-5. Unfortunately like many other spin off titles this doesnt live up to the main resident evil games and before anyone says i should of known this i agree with you i should have. After my 1st impressions of feeling ripped off i gave the game more of a chance and actually found some of it enjoyable. The team style play is a bit annoying as the ai isnt the greatest from your team mates but if your friends are playing then it can be good fun. The multiplayer is a bit of a rip off having to pay for the most interesting game mode but can be a change to the usual online play of fps games. Nothing about this game is great but just ok. I dont think im being un-realistic when i say this game should have been released at a lower price of 20 it just doesnt live up to standards of a usual full price xbox game and capcom have pulled off a bit of a scam
