Manufacturer's Description

The sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of recent years is finally here and the world of survival horror will never be the same again. Chris Redfield and new partner Sheva Alomar must face a new menace in Africa, as they take on an even more bizarre range of monsters and mutants.
Series regular Chris Redfield teams up with new girl Sheva
Not only can enemies use weapons but they can also drive
The new enemies are faster than zombies and cleverer than ganados
Now you've got two people to worry about - yourself and your partner

The first Resident Evil for the new generation of consoles doesn't just improve the quality of the graphics but also the abilities of the enemies. No longer do you face off against slow moving zombies, but instead mutated humans who will anticipate your actions and even set-up barricades to block your exits.

To combat this new menace you not only have a permanent onscreen partner but a wide range of more athletic moves, including dodges and the ability to take cover behind any piece of scenery. The biohazards are evolving yet again - and so is the game itself.

Key Features
  • The next chapter: Continuing the story from Resident Evil 4 and movie Resident Evil: Degeneration, this has topped gamers' most wanted lists since it was announced.
  • Evolving threat: Hugely varied gameplay as you battle motorbikes in the bush, race along deadly enemy-filled rivers and combat some of gaming's biggest bosses.
  • Super model: Stunning graphics push the next generation consoles to their limits, with hordes of enemies onscreen at once and a larger, more interactive game world than before.
  • Afraid of the dark: Realistic lighting system will blind you in bright sunlight or leave you dangerously vulnerable in the dark.
  • Two's company: For the first time ever in Resident Evil you can play the entire game with a friend, either on or offline. Or have the computer back you up as new character Sheva.
About the Developer: Capcom
One of the oldest and most respected Japanese publisher/developers, Capcom are very secretive about their internal studios. Their names are not made public, but they've been responsible for classics ranging from Street Fighter II to Resident Evil and Mega Man to Devil May Cry.

Review:
Recipient of just about every game of the year award going in 2005, Resident 4 wasn’t just one of the best games of the last generation it was also one of the boldest reinventions of a well established franchise ever seen. The only problem was how Capcom were ever going to top it and since almost nothing has been revealed about the game so far that’s still a difficult question to answer.

Some facts are known about the game though, in that it uses the same basic gameplay and controls as Resident Evil 4, as well as some other elements from the very first Resident Evil. The latter isn’t surprising as a different team are working on this new game, many of whom worked on the very first game from back on the PSone.

The trailer shows a desert, possibly Middle Eastern, setting with what appears to be fast moving zombies in pursuit of what may, or may not, be Chris Redfield. What is known is that temperature will play an important role in the game, with characters having to cool down if they get too sweaty – even getting heatstroke or passing out from overheating. The game will also feature online elements for the first time in a core Resident Evil game, although again their exact nature remains a mystery. In fact the only thing that’s known for certain about the game is that with a track record this good it’s almost certainly going to be worth the wait finding out about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A simply brilliant game, 15 Mar 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Resident Evil is a series which originally made its debut on the PS1 in the early days of the consoles release. It instantly revolutionised survival horror but was transformed again in Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil 5 (RE 5) follows on from RE 4 and the outbreak of a new virus which basically creates far speedier and nastier zombies. Chris Redfield (RE 1 and Code Veronica X) is sent to track a man in Africa who is connected to bio-terrorism and basically gets caught up in another outbreak with his partner, Sheeva. The storyline is fab as always. For those who have watched any of the videos, you know that Wesker is back from RE 1 and Code Veronica X and he is not happy but there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested.

The gameplay is a little more varied than RE 4 although the same underlying system is used. Chris has the opportunity to run and shoot using an over the shoulder method, however, when he shoots, he must stand still. This feels great, but is a little dated when you take into account that most games include the option to run and shoot, although it does up the tension. You have a variety of guns and weapons at your disposal (handgun, sniper, shotgun, grenades, knife etc) and each can be upgraded. There's a good variety of enemies from standard zombies, dogs and flying things to the inclusion of an infamous enemy from RE 1 and 2. However, there are also bosses. You have the usual medical supplis as well but it is the way the game feels that really makes it.

Enemies come from all directions armed with anything they can find, axes, spears etc. They climb ladders, jump through windows, swim, drive and basically do anything to get you. Often times, you'll be fighting off ten to thirty zombies. You'll need to run, climb and do anything so you can get in a reasonable position to fight back but at all times, you'll have your partner beside you.

Sheeva is a great addition to the game and in co-op mode, players can join and be Sheeva. There doesn't appear to be any lag in co op, although setting up is a little tedious. She can basically do everything Chris does but there will be times when you split up so you can access another area etc. However, the game doesn't end there. There will be sections when you are shooting from a truck whilst zombies on motorbikes harass you and there are some other brilliant sections. This is essentially a brilliant game.

So, what else do you need to know? At the end of the game is the mercenaries game which is fab. You can buy figures or special items upon completion with bonus points earned and the special edition version (this one only) has a great making of documentary, although it would have been nice to have something else like a code for a golden gun or something. This is basically a game every person should own and has very few negatives. Buy this game now!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good game, but not as good as the previous series, 14 April 2009

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
The story is told very well, but I miss Zombies, real dead Zombies.
Those People, who are infected with the virus, aren't scary at all.
The game has just become a third person shooter, and not a horror game.
The lack of puzzle solving and way too easy puzzles is a very disappointing thing, not to have in the Game.
In the previous Resident Evil Games, there was lots of puzzle solving, and some of them weren't as easy as in RE5.
The Graphics is spectacular; sound is very well done to the Graphics and Sound, Five Perfect stars to that.
The game play is good, but the lack of Item use and combining, as in previous RE games.
Running back again, to solve puzzles. Is a huge Minus to me as a Hardcore RE fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Game, 10 April 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The Game in my opinion is probably the best I've actually played. The combination of horror and a brilliant storyline have made it by far the best, the tension that come's in the ame is unbeleiveable and the Co-Op is just magnificent, it's the first time i've come across a game where you can upgrade your weapon's and depending on which character you are you can even get the gatling gun! I personally love the game and would definatly recommend it to other's as an incredible Game all I can say is BUY IT!
