5.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil 3 : City Of The Dead 5 May 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I recently had to choose a book for my English Study so I picked a book which interested me, this was it.
I had read the first 2 before I read this one and it is the best of the all the 6 Resident Evil Books, it will keep you wanting more from the Resident Evil world.
It is based on the 2nd Video game which is impressive in itself but the book really takes you indepts with the characters Leon and Clair. If you want a book that has an amazing story, great characters and well.....lots of Zombies then this is the book for you!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book 9 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
First off a few basics - the book is a novelisation of Resident evil 2 not 3. (Book 2 was an original novel). It follows the storyline that u get if u played Leon A and then Claire B (more or less).
Unlike in the game - the book goes through the events in chronological order - switching between Leon and Claire as they encounter new threats, people, people who are a threat, etc.
It also gives the storyline from the point of view of Sherry and Ada when they are seperated from the main charcters at the start of the book. As they meet the main charcters the story tends just to switch between the two pairings.
Also Cheif Irons is given a slightly bigger role in the book, as is Annette when our heroes reach the lab.
Being a novel, it concentrates more on the charters thoughts and feelings - and completely ignores the puzzles they have to negotiate - which makes for a more enjoyable read.
The book also makes the charcters a lot more 3-dimensional. For example in the game - Claire comes across as simply being obsessed with finding her brother, but in the book, whilst it remains an important part of the story, it is less prominent.
Overall the book is very atmospheric, with good visual descriptions. It also helps to explain a few of the odd things like why Ada looks dressed for a cocktail party.
If your expecting the charcters to have the same waeponery as in the game, think again. Claires massive arsenol of a knife, a handgun, a bow gun, a grenade launcher, an electric cattle prodder thing, a sub-machine gun and a rocket launcher(for the lat bit) becomes = a knife, two handguns and a machine gun(for the last bit). meanwhile Leon gets a MAGNUM to START the book with (sigh ... if only the same applied to the game) and then a shotgun.

4.0 out of 5 stars city of the dead 16 Sep 2012

Based on the game "Resident Evil 2" this is the third book in the serialisation by S D Perry.

The book follows the story of Leon Scott Kennedy, a rookie cop on his first day in the Racoon City Police Department and Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield's little sister, who has come to Racoon City to find her brother who is missing after the Spencer Mansion incident.

In the book SD Perry has run both stories simultaneously (as she did with book one "Resident Evil - The Umbrella Conspiracy") thereby keeping the time lines together. The story follows Leon and Claire as they struggle to survive the horror of the T-virus outbreak in Racoon City.

I only had the Wii console and RE2, RE3 Nemesis, RE Code Veronica, etc, aren't available on the Wii so the closest I have come is playing Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles which has an abbreviated version of the story as part of the overall Umbrella Chronicles game. This book fills in the gaps that were left by REDC. I now have a PS3 as well (which is backward compatible with the PSone games) so I have managed to play RE (I still have a tendency to run Chris Redfield straight into the wall) and an early copy of RE2 and Nemesis, and I can say that,in my opinion as an RE fan, SD Perry has done a masterful job turning the games into novels and sticking as close to the books as she could.

The characters are nicely rounded, including other characters that I only know in passing such as Sherry, Annette Birken, Ada Wong and Police Chief Brian Irons.

As with the previous 2 book this was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This book was incredible! I have actually played RE2 and beat it both leon a and b scenarios, and claire aand b scenarious, and the story is based on leon's scenario a and clares scenario b. Even though i have beat RE2, this book kept me riveted to my seat for 4 hours the night i bought it, and i had it finished before the day was over. She includes enough information on the actual events that take place in the game, to keep the story loyal to its idea, but includes enough plot twists to keep any RE veteran or newbie glued to their seats. A great read!
