Great novelty item, but not essential, 17 Nov 2005
This review is from: Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller (PS2) (Video Game)
When I received the item I was amazed by the size of the box. I did not realise it was contained within a display case (the picture above shows it in the display case minus the lid). For collectors like myself this is a must buy. The fact that the item is uniquely blood spattered, that it comes in an excellent well made display case with a hidden compartment for the connector cable and that each chainsaw is numbered and limited to just 50,000 world wide, it really is an excellent item.I have nearly completed the game using the controller and although it has some excellent features, it does not help gameplay, in fact if anything I found it a hindrance. The toggle buttons for aiming and moving around are tiny and very awkward to use, the L2 and R2 buttons are nearly impossible to use in the midst of a fight. At the part of the game where you've rescued the Presidents daughter I kept accidentally hitting R2 with my knuckle (R1 is on a handle, as is L1 and R2 and L2 are situated on the chainsaw "body"). The R2 button makes the President's daughter wait or follow you. It is game over when she gets carried away by a cult member and guess what kept happening, yep, he kept getting carried away in the midst of battle when instead of following Leon she would wait or end up getting accidentally shot. The start button means that in order to press it you have remove your hand from the controller completely, as it is featured right up the far end of the controller. There are segments in the game that require quick reflexes of the varying action buttons, this is nearly impossible to do without several failed attempts. A feature supposed to exist is that when the controller is horizontal Leon puts down his weapon and when it is raised, the weapon is raised. That does not seem to be the case. Do not buy this controller with the thought of using a chainsaw in the game because it would appear that does not happen. To finish on a positive note: The chainsaw is very authentic looking (in miniature) and it does have a pull cord that "starts up" the chainsaw with realistic sounding effects. A great collectors item, not essential in any way and not a benefit to game play either.
