Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell:
Welcome back to the world of survival horror… as you’ve never seen it before. Probably the most ambitious revamp of a series ever seen this neither looks nor plays like any Resident Evil game before it. Gone are in dodgy camera angles of yore and in comes all action third person adventure action with stunning graphics and set pieces.

The lowdown:
Charged with rescuing the president’s daughter from a mysterious Spanish cult, you control Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil 2. Although series regulars like the green health herbs and rubbish dialogue are present almost everything else has changed: there's a completely new 3D environment, few puzzles, no magic chests and not a single repeated monster from the old games. Instead you face a series of supremely cinematic set pieces and boss battles, including an escape from a village filled with Texas Chainsaw Massacre extras. As the Black Eyed Peas once remarked, "pick up your range of deeply unpleasant biological weapons and let's get retarded."

Most exciting moment:
The frantic siege from the villagers in the abandoned cottage has got Evil Dead beat easy.

Since you ask:
Resident Evil 4 won four awards at this year’s Golden Joysticks event, including Editor’s Game of the Year.

The bottom line:
The best game of the year and one of the best action games of all time.
Harrison Dent

Leon's girlfriend was not impressed with her Christmas bondage gear Is it just us, or is there the face of an old man (God?!) hidden in the rocks?
Survival horror faux pas no.256: wearing leather in a hardcore vegan community. Would look cooler if he held the gun at a 90 degree angle, like Ice Cube in Friday

Manufacturer's Description
In Resident Evil 4 players are reacquainted with Leon S. Kennedy, Raccoon City Police Department's idealistic rookie cop from Resident Evil 2. It has been six years since the destruction of Raccoon City and in that time, the U.S. government has been able to destroy the evil Umbrella Corporation. Fast forward to 2004 and players rejoin Leon, who is now a U.S. agent with a top-secret mission. He has been tasked to look into the abduction of the President's daughter and his investigation has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters unimaginable horrors, he must find out who or what is behind this new nightmare.

If you've not played resident evil 4 (where have you been?) Its one of he greatest games to ever be made but unfortunately this limited edition leaves a lot to be desired (hence the 4 stars) instead of being in a regular box you get a metal tin version with different cover art & an 8-page sampler of the walkthrough guide & that's your lot no making of disc, no art book, no extra parts to the main game as a lot of the ltd edition games releases tend to a poor effort by Capcom I'm afraid, save you money & get the regular version instead

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy, 21 May 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I do not normally enjoy this type of game, but owing to the glittering reviews Resident Evil 4 received, I felt I would give it a go. Resident Evil 4 turns everything about the series on its head and vastly improves every aspect of it - from the graphics and sound to fundamental gameplay mechanics.
Resident Evil 4 is a BIG game. Not particularly in its length, which, at roughly 20 hours clocked time (but much longer when you take into account how often you die and have to re-start an area!) isn't too shabby, but in this scope and ambition. This is near cinematic-quality, and is certainly the most involving and thrilling game I have ever played. The games graphics are perhaps its strongest selling point, and to the untrained eye, mine included, could possibly appear to be even so -called `next-gen' in quality. The amount of detail is astounding, and everything is made up of pixels, with not a pre-rendered background in sight. Atmosphere is everything, from the dark and dingy surroundings, with fog and damp you can almost touch, to the eerie soundtrack and sound effects, including gentle breezes, harsh downpours, and even the firing of the weapon you are using. The animation is fantastic, and everything feels like it could just be real, which makes it all the more unsettling. The three main environments in Resident Evil 4 range from a village, a huge castle, and island fortress, although it is surprisingly well-varied, incorporating laboratories, mines, sewers, lakes and even lava pits.

The story is not particularly complex, but is very neatly executed, and leaves the door to a sequel wide open. Basically, you play as Leon S. Kennedy, an ex-cop and now government agent, and must rescue the President's kidnapped daughter from a church in a creepy Spanish mountain village, where the inhabitants have a murderous, possessed glint in their eye... What unfolds is a conspiracy where an evil cult lord and his insane aristocratic lackey attempt to take over the world.

The everyday enemies in RE4 are amazing, particularly the insane chain-saw wielding villagers (who favour decapitation), but the bosses are out of this world. The first boss you come across is an enormous monster living inside a lake. You must dispose of it by throwing harpoons at it before it devours you. As I said earlier, the animation is second to none. When you shoot a villager in the shins, they fall to the ground and start dragging them selves toward you. If they are carrying a weapon, and you shoot them in the hand, they will drop it. The action is fast and furious, although there are quieter areas where you can save your progress and purchase or upgrade weapons, which range from a handgun to a rocket launcher. Ammo is generally plentiful, and now you can save wherever you see a typewriter, which is a vast improvement over earlier games in the series

RE4 is essentially an action game, combining elements of FPS, stealth and puzzles, with a satisfying difficulty level. The camera is focused behind the playable character, allowing for a good range of vision, and you become rooted to the spot when you aim at an enemy, with a handy laser. This works very well, and allows for effective and accurate aiming.

Resident Evil 4 is an amazing and engrossing game with tons of replayability (I completed it three times in the space of a month!), and four difficulty levels. It is a must buy. That said, it is extremely violent, and some of it is disturbing. Definitely NOT for younger gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resdient Evil 4, 3 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Resident evil 4 brings a whole new perspective on the resident evil series. This addition to the series has taken a huge leap on from the previous games, and feels like a completely diffrent game to the likes of its predecessors. One of the biggest changes is the arrival of the new camera, which closely follows the main character, Leon Scott Kennedy, right behind him. Compare to the old, fixed camera angles, this helps to vastly boost the tense atmosphere.

Leon S Kennedy, last seen in resident evil 2, has returned to the game to take the place of the main character in resident evil 4. No longer a police officer, Kennedy is now working for the government. His latest assignment is to search for the president's daughter Ashley, last seen in an area set in Spain. Leon comes across a strange village, inhabited by a population of people who have been injected with a form of parasite, now slaves to the will of Lord Saddler.

What starts as a simple objective turns into a huge, unwinding story as Leon gets caught up in Saddlers visions for the world and must take on Saddler and his minions.
The visual perspective of resident evil 4 is amazing. Pushing the playstation 2 to the limit, it is unsurpassed by any games visually.

With a interesing array of weaponry at Leon's disposal, a lot more variety is brought into the game. Also, you can now afford to be a lot less careful with the ammount of ammo you have left for your guns. The option is there to buy, sell and tune up weaponry, treasures, and objects that Leon will need in order to proceed in the game.

There is also in resident evil 4 a large number of unlockables including weapons and sub games, some of which not included in the gamecube version. This helps the game not to get tedious, and you can complete the game a few times without getting bored.

Overall a fantastic addition to the resident evil series, easily the best. If you are a fan of resident evil then this is simply a must buy. For those of you who have not really played other resident evil games, this is great for those of you that like action and shoot 'em up games.

Forget survival horror. This is resident evil redefined.
