Although I did not choose to buy this book (it was on our first year reading list at Exeter, psychology) I am so glad that I did.
The book really draws from Haslam's experience as a prominent psychologist and goes in depth to explain complex issues involved in research in the discipline.
If you have done an Alevel in psychology and don't think that you need to hear any more about confounds or reliability and the criticisms of the experimental method - you are WRONG.
The level of depth in this book means that it doesn't just build upon knowledge learnt at Alevel, but it actually changes your ideas about research and the philosophical issues contained within that.
Only minor criticisms include the structure of the stats section, which is very wordy and could be presented in a more friendly way for those people who are new to it. The book does look intimidating if you pick it up and flick through (ie. there are no pictures!) but I think that as a University student we should be past that.
