Product Description

Review

'Research Methods in Education contains much theoretical material, but this is supported by many practical examples and down-to-earth guidance. It is very clearly written, and demystifies the theory aspects of education research. The 200 pages of supplementary material are particularly practically focused, and are a substantial improvement on the previous edition of the book - if you already have a copy of the 5th edition, I would suggest you consider upgrading ... If you plan to undertake serious educational research in your discipline, Research Methods in Education is an invaluable addition to your bookshelf.' - Bioscience Education, The Higher Education Academy

'This great book (in both senses) now reaches its sixth edition - and that marks real progress ... The strength of the book remains its highly detailed account of many research methods. This new edition sees that account taken yet further - with new contents of w-based research as well as on sampling, interviews and surveys, and extra on various other kinds of approach.' - British Journal of Educational Technology

'I believe 'Research Methods in Education' is a very impressive volume. Detailed, instructive, rigorous, engaging; graduate students as well as their professors will surely learn a lot from it' - International Journal of Research and Method in Education

This is very long book 638 pages with 26 chapters, but the book is a textbook for researchers. It is full of bullet points and says it is backed up by a website, but the website is just a repeat of what is in the book.

Chapter 6, for example, describes validity and reliability, but does not define validity: Accuracy and precision are not defined and hardly mentioned. The relationship between all 4 is not mentioned and the book is very light on what statistical techniques are needed to measure validity.

Despite my reservations, the book is good starting point for researchers.

Research Methods in Education was recommended to me by my BA(Hons) tutor. He had used various editions of the book in his teaching and as I was looking for guidance to help me through my final year found the edition I used as the solution. May I recommend it to all students aiming to take their degree in education, I am sure you will find it most useful, the book hits the parts others do not.

I hate when .....
I hate when reviews are devoid of critical perspective. Do all publishers employ "A Customer" who spend their lives hyping books?

Research Methods in Education (6th Edition)
The book was what I expected it to be and it arrived quickly and in good condition. Only problem was that I received two and was charged twice - I only needed one.
