Written specifically for students with no previous experience of research and research methodology, the Third Edition of Research Methodology breaks the process of designing and doing a research project into eight manageable steps and provides plenty of examples throughout to link theory to the practice of doing research.

The book contains straightforward, practical guidance on:

- Formulating a research question

- Ethical considerations

- Carrying out a literature review

- Choosing a research design

- Selecting a sample

- Collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data

- Writing a research report

The third edition has been revised and updated to include extended coverage of qualitative research methods in addition to the existing comprehensive coverage of quantitative methods. There are also brand new learning features such as reflective questions throughout the text to help students consolidate their knowledge.

The book is essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the social sciences embarking on qualitative or quantitative research projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for selecting a Thesis topic 9 Aug 2011
By Yay!! TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This text is on a 7 day loan at the University, so if you don't get a copy from Amazon, you'll never get to see it.

It's ideal summer reading for those approaching the third year, and haven't narrowed down a specific thesis topic. In fact it excels in making you select a topic, and breaking down into sub topics and then only selecting the sub topic that you are passionate about.

It reinforces that PASSION ought to be your primary reason for selecting your thesis topic - and it knuckles you down to finding an angle that you really are passionate about and care for deeply.

So this really is breaking down the Thesis into minor chunks, so that you get a tight focus. Of course, it's easy to read - but also thought provoking for those that haven't yet selected their Thesis. It prepares you well for taking your ideas to your lecturers, in a fully formed format.

It also asks questions such as "do you have any contacts in this field", to help with your research. An excellent book - that is normally on a 7 day loan, so you can't get a copy for love nor money at Uni.
