Product Description

Rescued From Reality: The Life And Times Of Walter Trout is the result of 30-plus hours of interviews with American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Walter Trout by respected British music journalist Henry Yates.

For the first time ever, Trout gives his own frank, unflinching and dazzlingly funny account of his chequered life and times. It's all here: the hits, misses, homelessness, death threats, deals-gone-bad, bust-ups and comedowns. Even when the spotlight turns onto darker subjects, such as the desperate trauma of his childhood, the demeaning depths of his addictions and the reality of his recent health issues, Trout speaks out with an honesty that will leave his fans with a deeper appreciation of the man and his art.

This biography combines the bandleader's testimony with over 100 colour and black and white photographs, many never-before-seen from his personal archive. Equal parts thriller, romance, suspense and horror, Rescued From Reality is sure to be a page-turner for fans of the extraordinary musician.

This is the book fans have been waiting for. Mine came through the post this morning I just cant put it down.
It covers eveything from Walts formative years, family, friends, music, on the road, the ups, the downs and ending right up to his current health issues.
Packed full of colour and b/w photos, many of which are unseen, on nice quality glossy paper and nice large size paperback.
It also addresses the terrible production issues of Tellin Stories.Walter was really shafted by Silvertone, and its bad enough that they did this to Walter but in doing so shafted his fans for releasing an inferior product. Nothing wrong with the songs or the band just bad bad handling.
A gem of a book that Walter fans MUST own, and a great book for fans of the music business and rock n roll lifestyle.
Well done Henry in getting the best out of Walt. But as Walt is a forthright honest guy who has a great gift, wit and charm it is no surprise, atleast to me that it would be anything but a fascinating read.
Shame no hardback version though.
So here it is then, read about the wild Canned Heat days, how Albert King pissed him off and Walts sweet revenge, the gorilla suit fiasco, the drugs, the booze the lot.
Despite its relatively small length there is a lot here.
The only criticism I have, and its a minor one but would have been nice, would've been more details on his albums, although they are mentioned, it is only in relating certain songs. So a section at the back would have rounded off nicely, a great book.

Rescued from Reality - Henry Yates and WALTER TROUT

So I have heard The Blues Came Callin' many times now and adore it. Have watched the accompanying DVD twice and was enraptured by it.

I have now just finished the book, Rescued from Reality and was engrossed from the first word to the very last.

The cover style and format provide the clue to the content of the book, it is part autobiographical and part coffee table read, resulting in a book that can be read straight through or dipped in and out of. Needless to say I dove in and only emerged as I closed the book for the final time.

This is not a painstaking chronology of every facet of Walter Trout's incredible life it is more the opening of a window into a world of all things Trout. The man, his family, his career and most of all his massive canon of music, from the early days of Canned Heat to the release of the new album.

Praise must go to Walter and Henry Yates for the adoption of an interview style of narration that enables the great man to do what only he can; tell it like it really is. Yates also provides concise but informative context that excellently links together the life and career of contemporary Blues Rock's Godfather.

Oozing from every page is the character of the man we all know and love, humour, humility, brutal honesty and that fire in the belly that has fuelled WT in what ever he has undertaken.

The humour abounds in the form of life on the road and Walter's singular ability to smell bulls*** from some pretty heavy Blues legends.

The humility is palpable as Walter describes his deep rooted insecurities that Mayall would want him as a bonafide Blues Breaker and that he was good enough to become a solo star.

This book is a must for all fans of Walter Trout. Unlike some of today's stars, Walter has worked his whole life to get where he is. There is little he hasn't experienced. Drugs, drink, the missing money, abusive step father, this list goes on there are so many facets to his illustrious career cover in the is book. It is well illustrated with superb photography. To anybody looking at a career in the music business this book is good educational reading.
