Book Description

Ryder Daniels has spent the last year recovering from rejection. His parents rejected him because of his sexuality and his lover decided drugs were more important than his love. The only bright light in his life is his younger brother and his rescued pit bull, But now his mother's punishment for the lifestyle she doesn't approve of has cut him off from his brother he loves so desperately. Devastated, he throws himself into the work of the Pit Bull Foundation he and his friends started.

Jason Mallory can no longer hide the dissatisfaction of his relationship with his longtime girlfriend. Her ultimatum to get married pushes him to break off their relationship and he's determined not to jump into the dating scene. When a group of injured pit bulls are found on his construction site, he calls the neighborhood rescue for help.

After adopting one of the dogs, Jason finds he can't forget Ryder, and the two become fast friends. Then one night, Ryder lets down his guard and Jason recognizes his desire. After Jason devises a plan to bring Ryder and his brother together, they can no longer deny the passion between them. Will family differences and ugly prejudices keep them apart, or can they fight to prove that love is precious, no matter the gender?

I picked up this book because what could be better than men and dogs? I'm glad I took a chance on this one!
The two main characters, Ryder and Jason, are the perfect combination of sexy and sensitive in their own ways. They have incredible chemistry, and I love how the author didn't just rush into an emotional connection between them. They were dealing with their own issues, and I thought that was very nicely done, for the most part.

I also like the juxtaposition of both men having very different families, and I loved reading their interactions with the people in their lives. I did end up feeling like Ryder's mom was a bit over-the-top. Obviously, there are people like her in real life, but she came across as more of a caricature. But I loved the realism of Ryder being cut off from his family; that happens all too often.

The one thing that really put me off (and made me give this fewer stars than I think it actually should have) was how the author treated Jason's coming out. She used nearly every tired theme possible to avoid having him be bisexual: The college "experiment"; the nasty ex-girlfriend; the not-gay-til-I-met-you; and the absolutely never, ever noticing any other men except Ryder (and going on and on about his hotness and how everyone else wanted him too). In fact, another character even remarks on it, and Jason completely denies the possibility that he's bisexual--as though it makes him "better" somehow to be gay. It bothers me at a deep level because having genuinely bisexual men in m/m romance is rare, and writers go to great lengths to avoid it. It may not have been intentional on this author's part, but I'm saddened that such a fantastic story was spoiled by not allowing a more natural scenario.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little unsatisfied 14 Sept. 2014
By Zoe
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Three stars for what I felt I enjoyed...such as the pit bull aspect and the fact overall it kept me reading and interested in what would happen, but unfortunately there was a lot for me, that just didn't hit the mark...
****WARNING...MAY CONTAIN WHAT SOME CONSIDER TO BE SPOILERS ****
for one thing I felt that Ryder's initial reluctance to let Jason in was believable and interesting until suddenly he was fine..seemingly overnight. maybe this needed more of a gradual feel, and more conflict within Ryder.
Then they were declaring their love and Jason disappears for two days and comes back expecting to pick up like nothing happens because he's now fine with how things are!? We don't even get to see his struggle, just skips two days of poor Ryder not seeing or hearing a thing from him! Not sure about this...and Ryder doesn't put up much of an argument.
The relationship didn't really feel like it followed a believable route somehow...having read many m/m romance novels now, this one had the angst, Ryder's mothers one bitter individual! But it was missing maybe some drama and could have done with a little more believable emotions expressed..I felt some of the dialogue about their feelings was a little overkill...like the author was trying to over play it..and it was a little on the mushy side. Don't get me wrong, I think it's vital to have feelings expressed but this was a little over the top in places.
One thing that really annoys me is skipping time..and this does it...especially in the epilogue, now I understand this happens but too much changes from where the book ends and it was a gap too large to be jumped, I felt. I wanted more from the book itself...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love love love this book 17 July 2015

I love this author's style of writing and this the 3rd book I have read from this author!
This book did not disappoint, I hope there will be more books from this author.
Ryder was having a bad time, his ex boyfriend chose drugs!
His mother was a bitch from hell and I can honestly say how much I disliked the woman and the way she stopped him from seeing his younger brother and lied to his father!
Jason was a sweet character but was not sure of his sexually but he knew he had feelings for Ryder!

I enjoyed this and liked the characters but it was over the top on sweetness. I actually cringed in a couple of places because it was sugar overload.
Also the characters changed about half way through from sexy, strong, likeable men to sappy, endearment crazy ones.
I preferred the characters in the first half of the book.
But...a sweet (often saccharine) , angst free read.
