This is one of the best shows I have ever seen on TV. Every aspect of the show works. Major characters, minor(support) characters, the main plots, the subplots and even the way they delicately handle the subject of being in the FDNY after 9/11. After watching Season 1, I was worried that this would be a let down, no chance. The dialogue is witty, some subjects are fun and brilliantly acted whilst others are very emotional, dark and controversial. The banter between characters seems like something you would find at any workplace and adds to the realism of the show. Be warned though, if you are someone whos is ultra PC then this show is not for you. The show doesn't pick on one set of people, but, in the mode of South Park, no-one is safe, a 3-4 min scene in "Sensitivity" is one of the best in the series and highlights this point. The main strong point for Rescue Me is definately the characters. Each one's personal life gets explored throughout the series, and subsequent ones, and really makes you want to route for them, even when they get caught up in anti-heroic stuff. Although Tommy Gavin(Dennis Leary) is the main character, at times it is hard to see the division of main and support characters. Other shows have tried to tell multiple characters stories in one go, but with no success, Rescue Me manages to develope characters without losing the flow of the show. Each episode is unique and is packed with laugh out loud moments and oneliners along with controversial, emotional scenes. I would advise Season 1 first, but it is not entirely neccessary. Please watch and then spread the word of Rescue Me.
