More About the Author

Jaci Burton is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author who lives in Oklahoma with her husband and dogs. She has three grown children, who are all scattered around the country having lives of their own. A lover of sports, Jaci can often tell what season it is by what sport is being played. She watches entirely too much television, including an unhealthy amount of reality TV. When she isn't on deadline, Jaci can be found at her local casino, trying to become a millionaire (so far, no luck). She's a total romantic and loves a story with a happily ever after, which you'll find in all her books.

A Pitiful Excuse for a "Hero" 6 April 2014
By E. Brunson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
He is beyond "bullheaded" and "proud." He is childish, mean, and dishonest... So, after suffering a lifetime of neglect from a superficial and controlling mother, followed by a verbally and emotionally abusive marriage, she falls for a man who repeatedly tells her 1) it's just sex, not a relationship; 2) her efforts to help save his family's ranch are neither wanted nor appreciated; and 3) she can look forward to a second marriage full of verbal lashing out when he's angry, but he'll be real sorry afterwards?!? With love like that, no wonder she's smitten; she's in her comfort zone: doormat... I am astonished that so many other readers view this as an example of a mature, loving, or committed relationship. A far superior example of this particular story arch (a heroine who overcomes systematic abuse and domination to emerge independent and confident) is Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas.

Jaci, as a long-time reader and fan, I forgive you for presenting us with such a worthless coward for a Hero. While even rigid pricks manage to catch wives in the real world, I'm sure hoping one won't in your next work of fiction! I recommed this book only for long-time fans and not for new readers, as I don't believe Rescue Me to be the best example of this author's work.

Out of the Frying Pan 1 Aug. 2014

This is the second Jaci Burton audio book I have listened to recently. I enjoyed the storyline, and the determination of a beauty queen to reclaim her life after marriage to a controlling and emotionally abusive jerk. Good for her.

She has had the dream of owning a ranch although she has no experience with them. She has the money to do it so she finds a ranch that needs investors and she’ll invest short term if they will teach her how to be a rancher.

Here’s the problem, after their initial meeting and first evening in the family meal where he is an jerk, he calms down and long as Sabrina does everything Kyle thinks is okay and nothing he doesn’t he’s pleasant. But this is a man with a temper, quick to anger, chips all over his shoulders, huge ego, idiotic machismo.

I really enjoyed Sabrina changing from this sheltered girl whose husband just wanted her to stay still during sex, to a sexually fulfilled woman. And, speaking of heat, while it takes a while to get to skin on skin, the heat starts right away.

I have a problem with her being with him, he is not physically violent but he is an emotional jerk and copes with problems by being angry and lashing out. I have known of too many women where the guy ‘gets all nice’ temporarily, until something sets him off and he becomes a jerk again. Love will not change him; he needs anger management classes.

On the other hand, it is an idyllic ranch. She is resolute in her wish to make her dream a reality. When they get together it is hot. But this felt like just another abusive relationship. It says to me that a woman coming out of an abusive situation will just step right into another.

Some of the ranch events seem a little too easily accomplished, their execution is naive.

The narration was great. Easily understood, a pleasant timbre, good voices. It may have been the voicing of Kyle’s part of dialogue that made me feel he had problems and that I wouldn’t wish him on any woman. The anger issue is what really stuck out to me.That I get this ticked off means it was effective at engaging me. I may not have liked the outcome or agreed with Burton's premise but it got to me.

Terrific story! 8 Mar. 2014

Sabrina arrives at the ranch that she has invested in making her a partner for three months as they teach her to manager a ranch(her dream). She meets the Morgan family members: Jenna & Luke, Brady, and Kyle-one stubborn alpha male who is gorgeous. Sabrina loves Kyle on site, but both of them coming from recent ugly divorces are a little shy about becoming involved. But they can't deny their chemistry, and decide on sex only, lots of sex. One thing leads to another, soon there is romance and love. Very good reading Jaci Burton has yet to disappoint. She keeps the reader involved, anticipating the next move.

Rescue ME..... 27 Dec. 2011

Jaci Burton has a way of writing that drags me in on both sides of the characters getting down deep into their feelings and then having them share their feelings is always the best part. I am such a sucker for a love story. Of course, the details of "getting together" are really good too!!
