From Amazon.co.uk

The films of French cult director Jean Rollin belong to a genre all their own, horror fantasies that plunge viewers into wild fantasy worlds out of time and place in which figures (usually nude women) wander a deserted landscape. In Requiem for a Vampire, two school girls in painted clown faces and goofy polka-dot garb shoot out of the back of a speeding car on a desolate country road. For 45 minutes, we follow the adventures of the braided young nymphs as they ditch the car, wipe off the clown white, and change into miniskirts, with nary a word spoken. They dreamily wander through a graveyard (where one falls into a freshly dug grave and is buried alive!) and into a castle, where they are suddenly set upon by cloaked figures and brutish henchmen and made the servants of a tired, sorry-looking vampire desperately attempting to perpetuate his race with fresh blood. The lyrical first half, with its often beautiful and bizarre imagery, gives way to an astonishingly brutal scene in which the henchman molest the women they have chained naked in their dungeon. The film bounces back and forth between surreal poetry and kinky decadence (which also includes scenes of sadomasochism and plenty of gratuitous nudity), but Jean Rollin's ethereal mood and fairy-tale imagery gives the largely wordless film an eerie beauty and the surreal logic of a waking dream. --Sean Axmaker

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite film!! 25 Feb 2003
By Sam
Format:VHS Tape
Requiem has taken over Fascination as my new favourite film - the imagery here really is classic Rollin. This is the kind of film that after watching it a couple of hours previously, you think back to it after letting it sink in and its like remembering a weird dream that youd love to get back to...Requiem is strange in that it totally works as a straight up vampire film as well, but the first half is as Rollin as your ever gonna get!!the windswept cemetery at dusk, the girls running away from the chateau only to keep finding their way back, the piano playing outside as the girls get initiated, its all amazing...its all pure Jean Rollin.its a film you have to see,if only for the 'dead' guy who flinches when the 'gasoline' is poured over him!!I wonder if for a joke they used freezing water!?!Anyway, watch this film for the imagery and the 'feel' of it and youll want to watch it again and again...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure unadulterated gothicness. 25 Oct 2000
Format:DVD
Two ditzy girls and an old grey haired vampire only marginally detract from this masterpiece of sheer gothicness. Not Rollin's best effort perhaps, but the stunning imagery and atmospheric music are suitable compensation. So goth it hurts!

2.0 out of 5 stars Jean Rollin: Requiem For A Vampire 15 May 2006
Format:DVD
Two girls on the run hide out in an old castle and surrounding fields & graveyard. The castle is inhabited by washed up old vampires who try to initiate the girls & get them to bring fresh blood to the castle. Even by Rollin standards there is almost no plot to this film. If you are looking for something erotic you will be disappointed & if you are looking for horror you'll be more than disappointed. On the hand if you like Rollin's trademark slow dreamy surrealism you might find a certain amateurish charm. There are quite a few arresting images (all filmed on beautiful location). This was one of the last of Rollin's early 70s vampire movies and the concept was wearing very thin, this is basically a tired rehash of the much better Shiver of the Vampires and is for Rollin fanatics only.
