Product Description

CD Description

A subtle album of choral music in memory of our loved ones. Framed by movements from Victoria s and Nanini s eloquent sixteenth-century Requiem Masses, and music by William Byrd and Kuhnau, a series of beautiful and reflective choral pieces unfold including stunning new works by John Duggan based on poetry from World War I. Featuring Sospiri, one of Oxford s finest choirs.

About the Artist

Sospiri was founded in 2006 by Christopher Watson and John Duggan after they met singing in Magdala, the inspirational choir founded by David Skinner at Magdalen College, Oxford. Uniquely, Sospiri is run by a composer and a professional singer, whose shared experiences provide a dynamic and diverse atmosphere in which to make music.

Soprano: Alexandra Coghlan, Susanna Fairbairn, Lucy Gwynn, Kate Hicks, Joy Krishnamoorthy, Miranda Laurence, Nadia Lipski Alto: Cathy Bell, Helen Burn, Eloise Coyle, Jenny Davis, Anne Roberts, Camilla Stack Tenor: John Duggan, Kenneth Garbett, James Martin, Jonathan Stökl, Chris Watson Baritone: Edward Rowntree, Jon Stainsby Bass: John Cotterill, Michael Geary, Francis Steele

5.0 out of 5 stars What a find! 23 Mar 2013
Format:Audio CD
I could so easily have missed this gem. It's just wonderful! A beautiful collection and a most accomplished performance by a very gifted ensemble. Chris Watson's sensitive direction is paired with an eclectic selection of pieces from different eras and styles, all centered on the theme of remembering those who have gone before us. The jewel in it's crown are the original and inspired compositions of John Duggan, who, I admit, was unknown to me previously. On this showing, he is going to go far, and deservedly so.

This is a must for any one who appreciates beautiful polyphonic music performed by a quality choir.
