This is typical stuff from Astral Doors, so if you liked any of their previous releases you are sure to find several songs to enjoy here.
If you have not heard Astral Doors before and are a fan of Dio, 80s heavy metal or modern power metal with a hard rock element to it, then this is surely a band you have to try. The singer's voice is remarkably similar to Dio's, at least in timbre and feeling, if not in range. "Requiem of Time" is just as good a starting place to discover this band as any other of their albums.
With fifteen songs this release is sure to contain some which are not as good as others, and it is fair to say that the album may have benefited by leaving a few songs out (e.g. nos 3, 5, 10, 13). There are no really bad songs, though, and at least 3-4 are exceptionally good, such as "Call of the Wild", with its excellent riff, or "Blood River", with a highly memorable melody in the chorus. "Metal DJ" is a lively rocker, paying tribute to some great bands of old. There is nothing remotely ground-breaking or original here, but the band definitely sounds tight and Mr Johansson is a real pleasure to listen to on all the songs, even the ones someone might be tempted to regard as fillers.
