Product Description

The continuing adventures of Rhapsody, The Brother and Grunthor, three of the most engaging characters of modern fantasy, will take the reader ever further into the extraordinarily imagined, complex and exciting world of Elizabeth Haydon's landmark fantasy books. This is a series that spans epochs of time in a richly imagined, carefully thought out, wholly entrancing world. Haydon is unusual in her ability to create great characters, original slants on fantasy standards and cohesive imaginary worlds. This is the standout fantasy series of the early 21st century.

Still stunning... 5 April 2003
Format:Hardcover
Now, I started reading the first series from Elizabeth Haydon with some trepidation - it looked like one of those 'let's do fantasy magic with music' things that rarely works. But dear God, this did, and this book is a natural extension to the original Rhapsody trilogy, explaining what happened to some of the characters that you lose track of in the first book of the first trilogy. And it doesn't seem forced, either, as so many sequels do. It also doesn't hurt that the main characters are still involving, deep and fascinating, as is the plot. If you haven't read this yet, why not? Well? Go on. You'll be glad you did...

Personally, I do not like the idea of publishing sequels to the original trilogy, 'The Symphony of Ages', because it ended so well and everything was rounded up with no loose threads. So I was a little sceptical about reading this book.
It was nice to find out that all the characters were exactly as I remembered them from the first three books. It had the same amount of humour, sadness and tension that the other stories had, and the plot was as gripping as ever.
But I have to agree with the above review: the ending was predictable and adrupt. It was disappointing to turn to the last page and see the word 'Epilogue.' A character mentioned near the beginning that I was looking forward to meeting didn't appear. And, though this actually has nothing to do with the plot and indeed the review at all, there were a few accursed typoes ('Ached' was the one that amused me the most).
Regardlessly I enjoyed it, and if you want to find out what happens after the final battle of 'Destiny', I urge you to buy this book. I'm still hoping that the next story, 'Elegy For a Lost Star', will tie up a few confusions 'Requiem for the Sun' left me with.

Requiem for the Sun by Elizabeth Haydon is the sequel to the “Rhapsody” trilogy. Set three years after the events of “Destiny”, there are many new evils set out to wreak havoc for the three heroes. I will not spoil the plot, but just say that the suspense and action throughout probably surpasses any of the previous books.

The only criticisms I have with this novel are: the story is fairly predictable at times, but far worse, it is not neatly rounded off. The author seems to always neglect the endings of her books, this time there many loose ends (one important and mysterious character was suddenly cut off from the plot and not spoken of again). Perhaps the author is going to write a sequel to a sequel to a trilogy!
