Vol. 2 of BOOM!'s Hellraiser revisit, called "Requiem", begins with Kirsty attempting to save her fellow Harrowers who are already known to be dead. We continue with the unexpected demise of Pinhead's right hand Cenobites, Butterball and Chatterer. With the escape of the "Female" Cenobite we find out that Tiffany, of Hellbound, Hellraiser 2 fame, is alive and running a group of Puzzle smashing Harrowers herself. A heartfelt reunion between Tiffany and Kirsty leads to Kirsty tracking Pinhead to hell and a deal being struck. Several pages of Kirsty and Pinhead torturing each other later, Pinhead is again transformed into Elliot Spencer and Kirsty is the new Pinhead, Priestess of Hell. End "Requiem" with Elliot's torment at the hand of the new Cenobites', Kirsty's former Harrowers, and his return to Earth.
This next volume in BOOM!'s line has been a slightly more pleasant read but not by much. The re-introduction of characters like Tiffany show a slight increase in depth into the storyline but is only used as an accessory character. The appearance of "The Engineer" from the first Hellraiser movie shows that the writers are paying some attention to detail. The demise of some of the most iconic characters, Butterball and Chatterer, is not made up for by the introduction of new ones (not to mention the monkey wrench thrown into Hellraiser canon). Vol. 2 gets the reader on the straight and narrow path that the series was meant to set up but which is not iconic of the Hellraiser Franchise. What made the old Hellraiser comic series great is lacking here and we are seeing just another level of the Kirsty vs. Pinhead with new rules.
At this point, unless your a fan of the series, readers are probably lost. While the storyline does a decent job of recapping important events from Tiffany's, Kirsty's, and Pinhead's pasts, it's really not enough to see everything that is going on. Readers who haven't seen Hellraiser or Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 would be advised to watch those movies to get the full affect.
