This is the strongest of Republica's 2 albums. This is fast poprock with ladles of attitude and a dash of trance. Saffron's no-nonsense goading lyrics cut to the quick even if some of the references are a bit dated now (red shoes, megadrive?)but this was the nineties. So, is the music dated? Not a chance. Ready to Go is still used on TV as the England international football theme.
This is music to listen to while bombing down a tunnel in a hot hatchback.
The next album, Speed Ballads, has shades of the brilliance of this album but if you want to catch Republica at their creative zenith then this first one is the one to get.

Come on People! For 6 months in 1997 we loved this officialy wiered group. Many people still do. I myself am the creator of the unofficial website [...] - This is a good album. Unfortunally it contains a lot of their early dance music e.g. "Out of the Darkness". Stand out traks include "Ready to Go", "Bloke", "Drop Dead Gorgeous", "Picture Me" and "Holly". If you want REAL republica then get the next album up from this "Speed Ballads". That is a great album!!!

If you've heard of any of Republica's stuff and like it, this is the album to get. The sound of Ready To Go and Drop Dead Gorgeous is replicated throughout with varying success - several tracks are quite bland, but there are a few outstanding ones too, such as "Holly" and "Out Of The Darkness".

If you've not heard any Republica, then think a more poppy-electonic-y version of Lush or Elastica, an older and less classy Kenickie, and similar to Garbage's Version 2.0. Of course, if you were born after 1990, none of that helps.

Anyway, well worth the few pennies for an Amazon Marketplace order.

Republica have managed to fuse rock and pop in one brilliant album. Driving music with with pouting female vocal, it is an unusual mix but works perfectly.

Brilliant album, the band are first class with their original style of music but it is the brilliant female lead singer Saffron who steals the show for me,she is so unique and her no nonsense delivery is awesome,Republica without Saffron would be like Simple Minds without the magic Jim Kerr-unthinkable.
