Book Description

After the notorious outlaws Amaranthe and Sicarius helped overthrow the corrupt faction controlling the empire and brought in a great war hero to lead the nation to prosperity, they finally earned their pardons—and some time off. A tropical vacation cruising around in a private submarine? Perfect. But their trip is interrupted by a summons from the new president: they're needed back at home. Trouble unlike anything they've ever dealt with threatens to destroy the capital city and throw the fledgling republic into chaos.

The follow-up to The Emperor's Edge series, Republic takes place a few months after the events of Forged in Blood I & II. It is a complete 210,000-word novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just download it now!!! 23 April 2014

I tried REALLY hard not to race through this book, but it was impossible!! Another rollicking adventure from the talented Ms Buroker. Quite possibly my favourite so far (though I suspect this is because I have grown to know and love the characters from the previous equally excellent books)! The changing POV allows the reader to gain greater insight into the motivations and insecurities of both the known and the interesting new characters. As always, the book has an imaginative plot, is full of humour and, at one point, I even shed a tear!! Ms Buroker has, once again, left me wanting to know how plotlines develop for the various characters (look to 'Swords and Salt' for the development of one storyline)...I am already waiting for the next one!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the Republic flourish! 4 May 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lindsay Buroker could write backwards in Turgonian and still have a best seller on her hands..

This is an epic in the gentlest steampunkest tradition. A cleverly crafted story that gave good airtime to multiple characters and never left me feeling that they were fillers or the situations overly engineered plot devices. I think a lot of authors find it challenging to develop more than a couple of the characters in their book or to imbue them with and strength of character, but this book has a well developed lead cast of seven (Rias, Tikaya, Amaranthe, Sicarius, Sespian, Mahliki and Maldynado) plus the new character of Dak and appearances by several other regulars as well as the prescriptive Big Bads.

Writing is crisp and full of Burokers signature humour. If you've not read her before, go back and get the series before reading this. It's not essential but it will make everything more familiar and add to the enjoyment.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected......and more 15 Mar. 2015
    By Jeannie
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you have read any of the previous Emperors Edge books then you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that this book will not disappoint for plenty of action, comedy moments, the affable camaraderie between the characters and the conclusion had me biting my nails in the kind of 'how will they get out of this!!??' fashion that Lindsay Burokers is so very good at giving her readers. (if you haven't read the other installments in the series, go and start with book 1 - The Emporers Edge. It's free on the kindle so what have you got to lose? warning: I take no responsibility for possible resulting Buroker addiction and consequent hours spent devouring the rest of the series)

It always worries me when an author pushes out book after book of a series - the potential to overdevelop a concept is always there. But to be perfectly frank, Lyndsay has such a seemingly effortless relationship with her characters and the worlds that they inhabit that it's no surprise that this installment is a perfect follow-up to the previous books. Without posting any spoilers - I found the characters to be just as engaging as before, yet subtly altered by previous experiences.....as of course, they should be. The story was well paced The plot was completely apt yet with unexpected aspects and there was plenty of my favourite assassin to drool over....*ahem*....I mean 'appreciate' ;)

I look forward to the next installment! In the mean time, I believe there may be a Dragon Blood book calling my name.............

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable as expected 21 May 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed meeting again such well written and loveable characters that I had come to know through the Emperor's Edge series of books. Perhaps not as intriguing or in depth a storyline as her previous books but I don't mind because I was able to spend quality time in a world I would like to have the opportunity to visit again.

I have loved all of Lindsay's books but the emperors edge ones are my favourite. This brings all our favourite characters back for another adventure. I enjoyed the story following each persons view. If you are new to the series I suggest you read them in order for greater enjoyment. Another story soon please?

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love him so much 1 May 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again Lindsay takes us into her spectacular world, drawing us in with action and multiple puzzles for Amaranthe to solve. The plant, the assassin, the accidents at the new building, the trouble with the new religious nutter group, and all with a ticking clock in the background. Made me want to read it fast as I felt the pressure of the situation and the pressure the characters were going through. And Sicarius, I just love him so much, he's perfect as ever in this, his relationship (if one can call it that) with Sespian, his obvious adoration of Admiral Starcrest and his love (in his own way) for Amaranthe all make for a great read. I also have a new love in Colonel Starcrest, that guy needs some cuddles!

I'd fully recommend this entire series to anyone and everyone.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 6 Jun. 2015

I love this world. The characters are so human, the humour just right, the scenes beautifully crafted, and the story written with the breath-taking suspense one would expect of a best-selling author. Un-put-downable! I'm looking forward to the day these stories make it to the movies so even more folks can enjoy them. If you're reading this review having read none of the previous stories, go and get book one now! If you've read the others, you'll love this one too!

Thank you, Ms Buroker, for sharing your world. If you're so inclined to write them, it would be lovely to read more of these stories and these engaging characters 😀
