Product Description

Review

..."the Routledge Media Skills series.... offering solid how-to-do-it advice for those embarking on a career in journalism or television...and together they are beginning to form a comprehensive textbook published in installments."
-Bruce Hamlin, City University, London, in Journalism
..."the growing and important Media Skills stable from Routledge."
-John Herbert, Staffordshire University, in Journalism Studies
"Frost (University of Central Lancashire, UK) provides pragmatic advice on traveling to obtain news. And a well-conceived discussion of the news-production process includes helpful diagrams. The book succeeds in fostering interest in news and a journalism career without hyperbole or ignoring the news media's shortcomings and challenges. Recommended for extensive collections supporting the study of news writing and reporting. "Choice June 2002."

Covers all the basics that are often forgotten by students/trainees in the rush for media stardom. Helpful and informative.

Once again this was a prescribed book for my university course. I barely used it in the end. It is a very long, slow read and in the end, doesn't really have much better information than what you could find on the internet. It has the odd occasional little useful piece of information, but it doesn't warrant buying the book. I'd recommend borrowing it from the library instead.

with every page i become more irritated that i wasted good money on this book. there are pages and pages of irrelevant tosh such as a whole page dedicated to a list of things you should keep in your car (cans of drink, mars bar, mobile phone...)! it is patronising beyond belief and the tone is often very insulting to the reader, inviting us to join with the writer in scorning certain sections of society. hardly a good example for potential journalists. there is nothing in this book that anyone over the age of 10 would not already know. total dross.
