Product Description

Jude Law and Forest Whitaker star in this dystopian sci-fi action thriller based on a novel by Eric Garcia. Supplying sophisticated and hugely expensive artificial organs to those in need, multinational company 'The Union' has a virtual monopoly on life and death. Unfortunately, for those who can't keep up the repayments, the firm's repo men are despatched to reclaim company property - no matter the consequences for the customer. After suffering a heart attack on the job, top repo man Remy (Law) wakes to find the company have fitted him with the latest heart replacement, along with a sizeable debt repayment. Unable to make the payments, and rapidly losing his taste for the job, Remy goes on the run, teaming up with his former wife Beth (Alice Braga) who is also fleeing the system. Now pursued by his former partner, Jake (Whitaker), Remy must utilise all the skills he possesses to turn the tables on his former employers.

The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don't pay your bill, "The Union" sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property... with no concern for your survival. 4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Sci-Fi 22 Sep 2010
By RO
Format:Blu-ray
Im slightly baffled of the tearing up of this movie by critics upon its theatrical release. Although it's far from perfect, it certainly delivered as an entertaining sci-fi thriller. Perhaps its because the trailer/cover promised "full throttle action" that many were expecting. Or perhaps it's the gory elements that turned many people off. Either way, like a previous reviewer stated, it is a fresh take on the sci-fi genre, with some over the top gore and extreme violence, this is definitely not suited for the younger crowd. It is true that the film offers little explanation of how society has become the way it is and I would have definitely appreciated if a few questions were answered throughout, but the concept was intriguing enough, even if a little too extreme to happen in the very near future, and the twist near the end was pretty neat. Jude Law and Forest Whitaker do a decent job in their roles, and the film flows well throughout, although the middle act does take it down a notch. For those expecting an all out action film may be slightly disappointed. The film only features a handful of these, but when they do arrive they offer intense, unrelenting and gory violence that some may appreciate for a change while others will undoubtedly be turned off by.

I should also mention that Repo Men boasts one of the most impressive soundtracks I've heard in some time, with some old school jazz and blues (particularly a stand out track by Moloko near the end) sprinkled throughout the film. A memorable appearance by John Leguizamo (who is strangely uncredited in the film but that may be because he doesn't make an appearance in the theatrical cut) and an excellent orchestrated corridor fight sequence which lends more than an honorable homage to Oldboy, ensures Repo Men is an enjoyable ride from start to finish and one which will more than surely provide a pleasant surprise to those who aren't expecting it
.
The extras are ok but could have been beefed up a little more. Here is a list of them for those who are interested.

- Theatrical and Extended Cut (around 8 mins longer, with extra gore)
- U-Control - offers details on organ specs
- BD Live
- Social Blu - allows you to review the film on facebook/twitter
- Feature Commentary with Director and Writers
- Inside the Visual Effects (6 mins)
- 5 Deleted Scenes (8 mins with optional commentary)
- 7 Union Commercials (3 mins)

Give the movie a go (you may need a strong stomach to begin with) and you will be rewarded!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked 7 Jun 2011
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is for the BD release. Worth getting this version for the slightly tougher and 8 minutes longer version of the film. I knew nothing about this film before I saw it, not even that it was a science fiction film (well, somewhat futuristic at any rate)... perhaps a far less cerebral take on the same world that GATTACA exists in, but what's happening more at the blue collar levels of society. Make no mistake, it is violent and bloody - but it is also extremely funny, in the blackest and best way. The hard sell of FULL THROTTLE ACTION smells of a marketing campaign that tried to sell it as something else, but there is enough action to keep that genre's fans reasonably happy. But wait! There's more! Its take on a future society, and in particular the medical world, is savage and somewhat sadly may not be too far from the truth. Worth getting the BD for the extra unrated version as well as the theatrical cut and the film's visual and sound effects definitely benefit for the ramp up.

The idea behind the film was excellent - the execution was poor. Could have been so much better. It's a 'watch it once and then forget it' film.
