As I am sure most of you are aware, going to any of your local pc world/currys/general electronics hardware store will yield only shock at the obscene amount of money people charge for replacement adapters HOWEVER since purchasing this product I have wished I hadn't been so tight with my money.

The product was delivered within excellent time and proceeded to work for a few hours. It is now the early hours of the morning and it has subsequently electrocuted me several times - both through direct contact with the part you plug into the laptop and by supercharging any metal on my laptop keyboard.

You get what you pay for.

I needed yet another laptop charger after the cable near the laptop connector melted just the other day. The charger was only about 5 months old and was purchased from a local computer shop for £31.99. So I decided to check good old Amazon for a cheaper option, I certainly didnt want to be paying £60 a year to just keep my laptop running. I came across this one and thought 'what a bargain'. I then decided to check out the reviews which were not really favourable. I decided to take a punt on it because the price was so cheap. It arrived within two days of purchase so it was rapid (normal delivery), as we all know being without your laptop is such an inconvience, so I was extremely happy with that side of the purchase.

I then inspected the cable & connector to check for any looseness which a few buyers have highlighted as a problem, this is all solid and fine on my charger. I also have no issues with the cable falling out of my laptop, it sits in the input socket very securely. I have used the charger a few times now to charge the battery, I have not noticed any extreme overheating, it does get warm obviously, but then again, so did my £31.99 charger. I charge my battery fully then remove the charger from the power supply to allow it to cool, this is advisable to prolong its life I guess. As is removing your battery if you tend to leave your laptop running for a few hours etc to preserve its life.

As other people have stated you dont actually get the mains plug and lead, although its quite clear from the picture that this is not included. Its not a problem though as you can simply use your old one, or pick one up very cheaply from a shop.

Really happy with delivery & the product, no complaints here.

A great replacement lead for my acer aspire 5735 laptop, which was needed after my puppy chewed through the original! Very quick delivery and an excellent price.

I purchased a replacement acer laptop charger and was at first delighted with my bargain. Unfortunately this has been shortlived. The charger box overheats to such an extent that the box itself has warped and where the lead exits the box shows signs of melting. For a product that shows the kitemarks this is disappointing. It is too dangerous to use now due to the burning smell that emits when it is plugged in. Do not make the same mistake as me!!!

For the first couple of weeks this worked ok. The only downside being that the adaptor is not a great fit in the laptop.

However the charger has started to buzz and is now causing electrical interference - when it is turned on and plugged into my laptop it stops my laptop from starting up properly, it also affects my boyfriends laptop when he is sitting next to me and it interrupts the wireless internet signal even though the router is on the other side of the room. I know it is the charger as my boyfriends laptop and the router work fine when it is not plugged in and as soon as i plug it in his laptop starts behaving strangely and the internet signal dies. As soon as I unplug it everything returns to normal.

Do not buy this charger - spend a little more money on a better quality one

I bought this in November 2012 and used it a lot. Whilst watching a BBC programme 'Fake Britain' they were talking about potentially dangerous and fake replacement laptop chargers. The person they featured on the programme had bought one which had exploded and marked him. Birmingham Trading Standards were featured also and pointed out a couple of ways of identifying the dodgy ones - Two sentences on the charger were in 'nonsense' English and the Serial number was false. I checked mine against the one shown and mine was exactly the same.

I contacted Amazon to explain that I was concerned that one of their suppliers - in good faith even - may be distributing dangerous goods to Amazon customers. I was told to get proof from Acer that the item was dodgy. So - the onus was on me.

I thought a quick, friendly call to the supplier by Amazon might give them a 'heads up'.

They seemed to think I wanted a refund. I don't ! I just don't want anyone to be killed or maimed by this possible faulty product. I have notified Trading Standards and they are investigating.

Incidentally the picture of the charger on the advert is different from the one I received.

I will post more information as I have it.
